Justin Wretham
-
Bio An experienced transactional lawyer with a career spanning over 10 years across 4 jurisdictions, Justin quickly became immersed in blockchain and Web3 after relocating to Cayman in 2021, and has since established himself as one of the leading crypto-native lawyers on island. As a senior member of the Walkers FinTech & Blockchain practice group Justin has extensive experience advising clients across the industry, including many of the largest and most active projects and VC funds. Underlying Justin's interest in blockchain is a long held passion for technology, and its potential to improve and reshape the world. Committed to the long-term development of Cayman's blockchain offering, Justin will bring a pragmatic, commercially-minded approach to strategic and policy discussions. If elected, he would focus on (i) deepening BACI's engagement with the global Web3 community, (ii) enhancing Cayman's legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure it retains its status as the premier offshore jurisdiction for crypto, and (iii) supporting initiatives that promote the education and real world use of digital asset technology within Cayman.
-
Reason Justin’s blend of deep technical insight, legal pedigree and international perspective makes him a highly valuable candidate to help shape the future of blockchain in Cayman, and one with a unique viewpoint on both current and future market trends.
Simon Galante
- Bio Simon Galante is an associate in the corporate team of Carey Olsen, based in the Cayman Islands, specialising in fintech and digital assets. Simon has an international background, having previously worked in a leading global law firm in London for five years, focusing on capital markets, banking and finance matters. Since arriving on island, Simon has become embedded in the crypto community. He has recently presented at the STEP (Next Generation) Event re digital assets, and has further developed a series of training workshops with multiple crypto service providers across the island (including directorships, Web3 administrators, Trustees and Accountants). He has also written articles on Capital Markets and the future of crypto assets. Simon currently advises clients on both the buy and sell side of the fintech, crypto and digital assets markets, including: structuring and regulatory advice in connection with token issuances and early-stage fundraising; DeFi protocols; decentralised autonomous organisations (or DAOs); centralised and decentralised exchanges; wallet providers; VC funds; NFT and gaming platforms; and mining staking (including re-staking and liquid re-staking) operations. In addition, Simon advises clients in the regulated sector in connection with applications under the Cayman Islands VASP regimes.
Max Tavner
- Bio Max serves as a director of Autonomous, focusing on client experience and ensuring our services remain second to none. Most recently, Max served as Chief Operating Officer for KPMG's Asset Management business across their Islands Group, developing growth strategies across both traditional and digital assets before moving back into full-time crypto once more. Having moved into digital assets from 2019, Max earned his stripes as co-founder and/or COO of various businesses, including an on-chain/off-chain data aggregation company and a DAO service company. Hobbies including losing far too much on untested DeFi protocols, losing far too much on bad NFTs, and teaching project teams how to not lose so much making bad financial decisions.
- Reason My background is in operations, both at small start-ups and multinational organizations. If the goal this year is to get a conference off the ground, or re-organize the way we run things to be more efficient (with more notice of events), my background would compliment whomever becomes Chair this year. Melding operational experience in both digital asset and traditional business, I believe I am uniquely qualified to serve in this role.
