[KIP 0000008] Emergency Proposal to Appoint Zorden as a Replacement DAO Committee Member
Abstract
This proposal seeks to appoint Zorden as a replacement DAO committee member following Christina's resignation. The proposal is submitted under the "extreme emergency" status to ensure prompt action.
Motivation
Christina's resignation from the DAO committee has left a vacancy that impacts the DAO’s ability to maintain the functionality and security of its multisig wallet. The DAO bylaws explicitly require the multisig to operate with 3-of-5 signers, providing both security and flexibility. Operating with 3-of-4 signers, while temporarily functional, leaves the DAO with less room for operational flexibility, as it allows only one signer to be absent or unavailable.
In contrast, a 3-of-5 configuration allows for two signers to be unavailable while still enabling quick action in the event of a security incident, such as pausing the ERC20 contract or freezing a hacker’s wallet. Maintaining the 3-of-5 configuration ensures the DAO can act swiftly and decisively in urgent situations without being bottlenecked by signer availability. Therefore, appointing Zorden, the next runner-up from the most recent committee election, will restore the multisig to its full capacity, allowing for prompt action in the event of security risks.
Implementation
Immediate Appointment of Zorden:
- Zorden will be added to the DAO’s multisig wallet changing it to a 3-of-6 configuration temporarily.
- Christina will be removed, restoring it to a 3-of-5 configuration.
Timeline
Upon approval of this proposal, Zorden will be added to the multisig wallet, followed by the removal of Christina. This process will be completed within 48 hours under the extreme emergency status.
Total Cost
There is no direct financial cost associated with the implementation of this proposal.
Extreme Emergency Proposal Application
Why has this proposal been declared an extreme emergency by the Committee?
This proposal has been declared an extreme emergency due to the critical need to maintain the 3-of-5 signer configuration required by the DAO bylaws. Operating with a 3-of-4 signer configuration compromises the DAO’s flexibility, as it only allows for one signer to be absent or unavailable. In contrast, the 3-of-5 configuration allows for up to two signers to be unavailable, ensuring the DAO can act swiftly and decisively in the event of a security threat.
What kind of unbearable damages would be caused to the DAO or to other people or entities if the proposal wasn't declared an extreme emergency?
If this proposal were not declared an extreme emergency, the DAO would be forced to operate with a 3-of-4 signer configuration, which reduces the DAO’s ability to act quickly in security-related situations. This could lead to delays in critical actions, such as pausing the ERC20 contract or freezing wallets of malicious actors, resulting in potential financial loss and damage to the DAO’s reputation.
What alternative solutions could mitigate these damages, and why has the "extreme emergency" status been preferred to them?
Alternative solutions, such as waiting for a full nomination and election process, would leave the DAO in a vulnerable 3-of-4 configuration for an extended period, during which the DAO’s ability to respond to security risks would be hindered. The extreme emergency status has been preferred to expedite the process, ensuring the DAO's multisig returns to the 3-of-5 configuration as quickly as possible.
