Context
The Redbelly DAO has grown rapidly, with contributors engaging across Discord, Telegram, forums, Snapshot, and in-person events. While this growth is positive, it also increases the importance of maintaining shared standards of behavior, respect, and accountability.
At present, the DAO does not have a formal Community Code of Conduct. This creates risk of misaligned expectations, unresolved disputes, and reputational harm if inappropriate behavior occurs. Other leading DAOs (ENS, Gitcoin, Optimism) have adopted codes of conduct to set clear norms and provide a framework for enforcement.
To strengthen community trust, protect contributors, and support healthy governance, we propose adopting a formal Redbelly DAO Community Code of Conduct.
Proposed Community Code of Conduct
Core Principles
- Respect – Debate ideas, not people.
- Transparency – Share openly unless bound by confidentiality.
- Accountability – Take responsibility for your words, actions, and proposals.
- Inclusivity – Value diverse perspectives; no harassment or discrimination.
- Constructiveness – Critiques should be solution-oriented.
- Integrity – Avoid conflicts of interest and misuse of DAO resources.
Expected Behaviors
- Professional and respectful engagement, even in disagreement.
- Use of evidence and reasoning when critiquing or proposing.
- Welcoming newcomers with guidance and support.
- Following proposal and governance processes in good faith.
- Protecting community security (no scams, phishing, impersonation).
Unacceptable Behaviors
- Harassment, hate speech, personal attacks.
- Spamming or shilling unrelated projects.
- Manipulation of governance processes (Sybil attacks, undisclosed vote buying).
- Misrepresentation of DAO affiliation or confidential info.
Enforcement
- Warnings – for minor breaches.
- Temporary Restrictions – for repeated or significant violations.
- Permanent Removal – for severe misconduct (fraud, harassment, governance manipulation).
- Appeals – via DAO-designated review pod or council.
