The Contribution Calculator reduces ambiguity, fosters fairness, and creates a system that benefits both contributors and the organization as a whole. By addressing past frustrations with the system, the tool encourages contributors to participate actively again, reviving engagement within the ALANA ecosystem.
Risks
Bugs in the calculator could affect point calculation. Contributors might focus on tasks with higher point values rather than those with greater organizational importance or long-term benefits, leading to potential misalignment with strategic goals. the guidelines or calculations are too intricate, contributors might find the system confusing or intimidating, discouraging participation instead of encouraging it.
Timeline and Implementation
With the ALANA Contribution Calculator now complete, the next steps focus on implementation and refinement. First, the tool will be integrated into the DeWork platform, translating tasks and point allocations into user-friendly templates within 1–2 months. This will be followed by a retroactive trial (“task parade”) to simulate 2024 contributions, gathering insights to ensure fairness and usability. After any necessary adjustments, the tool will be rolled out organization-wide within 1–2 months, accompanied by training sessions to ensure smooth adoption. Ongoing monitoring and quarterly feedback will then support continuous improvement and alignment with contributor needs.
