Enable Search by UNS + ENS Domains

Voting ended about 3 years agoSucceeded

[Proposal and benefits for AAVE community]

Unstoppable Domains provides web3 domains like Somename.crypto or somename.blockchain that can replace wallet addresses in crypto transactions. With 3M domains registered, 300+ coins/tokens supported and an ever growing ecosystem of compatible apps (660+ integration live today), Unstoppable Domains support would further reduce friction in recruiting new AAVE users, contributing to token value growth.

[Proposed integration]

  1. Search by domain name: The proposed integration would add Unstoppable Domains as an input option alongside ENS in the watch-only mode. Today in watch-only mode a user can either enter a wallet address or an ENS domain like 0xjimbob.eth. This integration would additionally allow users to type in UD domains such as 0xjimbob.nft.

[Technical integration]

Proposed integration implemented in https://github.com/aave/interface/pull/1243

This integration directly follows the feature that already exists for searching for .eth domains. It simply expands to include the ability to also search for the 3M+ domains supported by Unstoppable Domains. This does not impact the wallet connection modal nor include branding impacts in any way.

[Extra marketing benefits]

As a Defi platform supporting Unstoppable Domains, AAVE would benefit from evergreen presence on Unstoppable supported apps section on all platforms. Unstoppable teams have agreed to provide marketing support aiming to grow AAVE usage: slots in UD's newsletter (300k audience), Posts on Socials (300k on Twitter, 125k on Tiktok), as well as AAVE mentions on relevant comms material at future events.
