Overview:
This proposal is to vote on an L1/L2 hybrid approach for the Age of Anura project.
Age of Anura’s V1 launch consists of:
The DAO has three different options in terms of home blockchain:
I believe Ethereum is in the position to be the world's smart contract based master record and as such THE system of record for high value transactions. A central aspect of AoA is the creation, curation and publishing of brand IP: i.e. high value transaction data. However, the governance aspects of the organization are not required to be on mainnet and governance participants are better served on a lower cost L2. Additionally future increases in map fidelity and the chance to move the map on chain is also better served by lower transactional costs.
The rise of L2:
Recent months have seen the ascent of ZK proof as well as Optimism based rollup sidechains. Without getting into the difference between the two technologies both serve as a way to reconcile and prove the validity of side chain txns with ETH mainnet. Interestingly enough both L2s also have released their native governance tokens and rewarded active early adaptors with decent sized claims.
Enter zkSync, an L2 ZK based rollup that recently launched their mainnet and is currently in Alpha with general release aimed for 2024.
zkSync offers novel functionality such as:
• Hyperscaling - https://zksync.io/hyperscalability • Gasless Meta Transactions (pay fees in any token) - https://zksync.io/ux
The chain has also confirmed a future token drop. If drops on other L2 chains are indicative then it is safe to assume that early projects and users of the network will reap the lion share of future rewards. The option outlined here is to vote on the L1/L2 mix, namely that high value IP: books, movies, world lore, contracts and any other low volume high value IP content would be published on ETH mainnet, where are our AoA NFTS, governance and gamified future content such as the World Map and associated land would be deployed on zkSync.
Cons:
• Additional development complexity and time, for example snapshot.org does not yet support zkSync so we would need to develop an on chain gov-votes contract. • No listings on Opensea/Blur yet, but no doubt will be available in the futre • Smaller market since zkSync is just getting started
Pros:
• We would be an early project on zkSync and have a good shot at becoming an early “bluechip” • Holders would be interacting with zkSync and we would work as a DAO to further the zkSync ecosystem in a mutually beneficial relationship • Easy to work and partner with nascent marketplace projects such as https://zkmarkets.com/ • Low transaction fees • Ability to experiment on chain experiences that would be too expensive to do on mainnet e.g. world map on chain
Under this approach the vested DAO Claims and founders allocations would be dropped first on zkSync, allowing existing members to kick off use of the platform and mint out first batch of IP on the ETH mainnet. A subsequent drop shortly after would be open to the public for mint, price TBD.
