The full name of the Ethereum naming system ENS is "Ethereum Name Service". It was born in 2017 and is a distributed, open and extensible naming system based on the Ethereum blockchain. On May 4, 2019, ENS upgraded the contract, released a new version of ENS, simplified the registration process, purchased .eth domain names with annual rent, and opened the transfer function. So far, the number of ENS registrations has exceeded 252,000, and the number of users has reached 79,300. It is currently the most widely integrated blockchain naming system. Although the new version of ENS has made many improvements, there are still many shortcomings. First of all, the registration of ENS must be operated using Ethereum wallets such as MetaMask. Second, the annual rent for ENS domain names must be paid in ETH. These two points have blocked many users because there are certain thresholds for wallet operations, and ETH must be purchased separately in order to pay. Third, although ENS has begun to support address resolution of other currencies (such as BTC, Dogecoin) in addition to ETH addresses, the number of supported cryptocurrencies is still relatively small. Finally, although ENS is an open source project, no one "worked for ENS", but is operated by a non-profit organization, and the product iteration speed is slow.
