At present, only ApeSwap users who hold GNANA tokens in their wallet can vote on governance proposals. GNANA tokens that are staked in GNANA Staking Pools currently do not count towards a user’s ability to vote on governance proposals, as they are not captured in the snapshot used to determine governance voting eligibility (must have >0 GNANA to vote) and voting power (1 GNANA = 1 vote).
After discussions among the team and the community at large, ApeSwap has decided to submit a proposal to allow GNANA tokens staked in GNANA Staking Pools to count towards a user’s eligibility and voting power as it relates to governance.
If this governance proposal passes, voting eligibility and voting power for future governance proposals will be determined not only by counting the GNANA tokens in a user’s wallet at the time of the snapshot, but also by counting the GNANA tokens staked in active GNANA Staking Pools at the time of the snapshot. In other words, both held and staked GNANA would count towards a user’s voting eligibility and voting power.
Note that this proposal, if passed, would override the governance proposal passed on November 15th, 2021, in terms of the definition of GNANA in circulation for the purposes of calculating voting eligibility and voting power.
ApeSwap understands that due to the multiple uses of the GNANA token, including voting power and access to exclusive Staking Pools, some users may want to deploy their GNANA in different ways than others. This proposal invites the community to decide if all GNANA, whether held in wallets or staked in Staking Pools, should be counted when determining voting eligibility and voting power.
PASS - If this proposal passes, ApeSwap will update the way that it counts GNANA for the purposes of future governance voting eligibility and voting power to include GNANA staked in GNANA Staking Pools.
REJECT - If this proposal is rejected, no changes will be made to the way GNANA is counted for the purposes of future governance voting eligibility and voting power. GNANA staked in GNANA Staking Pools will continue to be excluded from voting eligibility and voting power determination.
