Make ATXDAO Nounish

Abstract

Austin’s crypto scene continues to grow with ATXDAO at the center, and with the Bluebonnet round behind us, there’s already new Austinites asking how they can join. To address this growing demand, I propose we fork Nouns’ contracts and UI, customize and configure it to our liking (including a dynamic auction algorithm), and launch ATX Nouns ⌐◨-◨ For more background on Nouns and the draft plans for ATX Nouns, please check the ongoing discussion in the ATXDAO Forum

Summary

Launching ATX Nouns to evolve the process by which new memberships can be minted is a significant change that will require meaningful resources. To ensure that the community is on board with this direction before investing too many resources, this is the first of two proposals that will be required to launch ATXNouns.

Voting yes for this first proposal means the following:

1. You are in favor of ATXDAO investing the time and energy necessary to prepare ATXNouns for launch
2. You are in favor of allocating 4,750 USDC from ATXDAO’s Treasury to cover expenses and compensate contributors that prepare ATXNouns for launch
3. You are in favor of ATXDAO Members making a proposal to Nouns to request grant funding as well as creating a new Safe Multisig with the same signers as the main Safe to receive said grant funding (note that if any ATXDAO members hold Nouns, they’re encouraged to refrain from voting on any proposals from ATXDAO to Nouns)

If this proposal passes, that will provide the necessary signal to members interested in contributing to this effort that the ATXDAO community is on board with this direction and that they can be compensated for their contributions.

ATX Nouns will not launch until a subsequent proposal is passed that determines key configurations for Membership Auctions and confirms that the community is still on board with launching.

Project proposal: Mission Alignment The portion of the mission statement and related guild that this project will operate under. Deliverables

1. A facilitated forum post with recommendations and polls for the key decisions that ATXDAO will need to make prior to launch (ie. What should the reserve price be for membership auctions? Recommendation: 0.512 ETH)
2. Onchain artwork for unique, generative ATX Nouns NFTs
3. Contracts necessary to power ATX Nouns auctions, artwork, and NFTs, forked from Nouns (deployed to testnet prior to launch, and ready to launch on Mainnet)
4. UI for auctions, forked from Nouns and connected to the ATX Nouns contracts from deliverable #2
5. A proposal to launch ATX Nouns once deliverables 1-4 are completed

Timeline Aggressive goal to launch at Permissionless because that would be awesome. If it’s not ready by Permissionless, which is the most likely scenario, we should at least have some solid progress to show at that point and a better idea of when we could be ready for liftoff.

Budget

• 4,750 USDC, provided by the ATXDAO Treasury
• 0.5 ETH, already granted from Nouns and waiting to be put to work in willywonka.eth

Revenue

• Dependent on demand to join ATXDAO
• Estimating 1 ETH per week in ongoing revenue if we assume onboarding 52 new members via auctions each year.
• Potential grant funding from Nouns

Compensation Structure All members that have a W9 on file with ATXDAO will have the ability to opt in to a giving circle/coordinape circle to divvy any budget that remains once ATX Nouns has been launched. Funds will be requested from the ATXDAO Treasury as needed, and it’s likely that no additional funds will be required until ATX Nouns has been launched.

Benefits

• Gives potential members a new path to join ATXDAO that’s always available rather than seasonal
• Gives ATXDAO access to the growing ecosystem of Nounish assets, artwork, contracts, apps, tooling, and communities
• Brings ATXDAO NFT artwork onchain
• Provides an ongoing revenue stream to ATXDAO that once launched, requires little-to-no effort to maintain
• Not guaranteed, but potential to receive grant funding from Nouns for contributing to the ecosystem

Drawbacks

• $4,750 of USDC from the treasury that could be used for other stuff
• No guarantees. Possible that the community will decide against launching or that we will launch, not like it, and decide to revert
• Possibility of diluting or harming ATXDAO’s brand by associating with Nouns, especially if Nouns’ reputation is ever tarnished
