Motivation

In the past, DNS hijacks have been seen all over the DeFi landscape with two of the most recent victims being Velodrome (https://twitter.com/VelodromeFi/status/1731454836703473723) and Balancer (https://twitter.com/Balancer/status/1704281611326357567). This has urged us to revisit our strategy in terms of DNS security.

Balancer has moved their DNS services to a different provider called domainSure. The offered services focus on infrastructure protection and provide a complete suite of tools and mechanisms to secure the DNS. More info on their services can be found here: https://domainsure.com/services/.

I’ve had an initial contact with a representative of the provider and I am convinced that their services greatly increase our DNS security posture. The main advantage is the ability to implement specific processes for account resets or even config changes. Lax processes around account resets is what caused the DNS hijacks for both Balancer and Velodrome.

I propose to onboard as an enterprise client as we will benefit from an account manager which develops a more intimate understanding of our organization, and is a single point of contact that other departments like premium support can escalate to in terms of issues or unknown requests. I believe that the enhanced concierge offering, increased security features, and more robust monitoring of the Enterprise service is worth the additional cost

Specification

I am proposing to move our current domains beets.fi, beethovenx.io and beets-ftm-node.com to be managed by domainSure.

With the move of the above mentioned domain names to domainSure, we will also change the ownership of the domains to the Beethoven X DAO LLC.

The DNS environment on domainSure will be set up and managed by the core contributors as per best practices defined by domainSure.

The Beethoven X DAO will subscribe to the enterprise plan for beets.fi which offers the best security options and most importantly a dedicated account representative. Beets-ftm-node.com will be added under a pro plan and beethovenx.io under a defensive plan. The current offer from domainSure totals to a yearly cost of $1169.99 which can be paid in crypto.

The contract will be signed by a core contributor as an official representative of the Beethoven X DAO LLC after passing of this BIP.
