Passphrase is the 25th secret word you set yourself, it helps create a new empty wallet, including new wallet addresses that are completely different from the wallet addresses of the previous 24 words.
Passphrase helps protect your crypto assets if your Recovery Chain is accidentally exposed. The only way to access the account containing the money is to know all 24 words and the 25th word (passphrase). Each different passphrase will access a different hidden wallet. You can use multiple passphrases to manage multiple separate hidden wallets on the same device. Passphrase is never saved on cold wallet. It is only used to create a secondary recovery chain to protect a separate list of “secret accounts”. If you choose to attach the Passphrase to the secondary PIN, the Recovery Chain and Private Key of the secret accounts will be protected inside the cold wallet's security chip. However, if you create a new passphrase, the old passphrase will be deleted from the cold wallet memory. If you choose to set a temporary Passphrase, all associated data, including the passphrase and Private Key, will be deleted after each session. This means you will need to enter a passphrase every time you want to access hidden accounts.
