A three phase process for determining the final Blank NFT Evolution proposal.
This allows us to consider many ideas starting now and removes some of the pressure on each individual vote, ensuring that the winning proposal will go through an iterative process (with potentially significant changes) until enough Blank members agree that it should be launched, helping to ensure that the proposal is not finalized based on the approval of a vocal minority.
Below is the what/how/why proposed by the Blank NFT Evolution Stewards and their working group as the process for this Blank NFT Evolution.
Blank NFTs are the first project of the Blank Foundation. They are 10,000 Blank NFTs with the promise to be much more. If this proposal passes, we will begin an ambitious three phase process of determining the final Blank NFT Evolution proposal that will then be voted on, ratified by, and executed on by the community.
Blank NFTs are 10,000 identical ERC-721 non-fungible tokens with the ability to upgrade the artwork from the initial image to whatever Blank members decide (see contract: https://etherscan.io/address/0x9ef14cc7c558a70fbb6480ce58042feebaa1972e). If the ability to upgrade the artwork via the current contract is not enough, Blank members can decide to burn and mint, airdrop, or any other mechanism that we collectively decide aligns with the ethos of building upon a blank canvas.
The three phase process will move from many ideas down to one full proposal which can be iterated on until Blank members agree that it is good enough and should be launched (following technical execution).
We want to ensure that we consider as many ideas as possible in a timely fashion and that the Blank members agree on a final proposal before launch. This three phase process will allow us to move from many proposals to one and then iterate on that final proposal as long as necessary to reach the quality bar required for launch.
(Phase 0) Present updated proposal to Blank members for comments and feedback
(Phase 0.1) Ratify proposal via Snapshot vote
(Phase 0.2) Snapshot vote closes. If the proposal successfully passes, move on to Phase 1. (Phase 1) Members are encouraged to create proposals using this template (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1635xSIabw2Ovi-Ppx9HwnqsmAgbGLdv12PY8sR8l34E/edit?usp=sharing). Members can create more than one proposal. These proposals are meant to be short as there may be many proposals to consider during this phase.
(Phase 1a) Members can submit their proposals at any time by listing them in this spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z7AEVqvnaLab2cr-IzKv--AplC4ppQjbQ9-DoaWL8mI/edit?usp=sharing). Blank members can read proposals and provide feedback up until the proposals are due.
(Phase 1.1) All Phase 1 proposals are due.
(Phase 1.2) Phase 1 proposals are presented to Blank members and voting begins. All Blank members will have 3 days to review proposals and vote on their top 3 (possibly via dot voting or the closest approximation supported by Snapshot), with each Blank NFT representing an opportunity to vote. The top 3 proposals will advance to the next phase.
(Phase 1.3) Winning proposals from Phase 1 are announced and advance to Phase 2. (Phase 2) Phase 2 begins. Winning proposals can be fleshed out over the next two weeks, using a template that will be provided.
(Phase 2.1) Proposals for Phase 2 are due.
(Phase 2.2) Phase 2 proposals are presented to Blank members. Members will have 5 days to review proposals and vote via a ranked-choice vote, as supported by Snapshot.
(Phase 2.3) Winning proposal from Phase 2 is announced and advances to Phase 3. (Phase 3) A working group channel is formed around the winning proposal. This working group is open to anyone interested. The goal of this working group is to modify the working proposal on a weekly cadence and present it to Blank members for a vote. If the vote by Blank members passes (see below) then the proposal will be final and move on to the execution phase.
(Phase 3.1) Each Wednesday the proposal working group will meet and determine if the proposal is ready for a community vote. If 50% of the working group feels the proposal is ready (informal vote) the proposal will be brought to all Blank members. A 2/3 majority with at least 30% voter participation (based on number of minted Blanks, excludes unminted Blanks held by treasury) is needed to pass the proposal.
As a note, the bar for final approval is high (it may be difficult to garner 30% voter participation), but it can be lowered via an amendment vote if necessary.
(Execution Phase 1) Blank members begin to execute on the winning proposal. The specifics of Execution Phase 1 will be determined at a later date and presented in a separate proposal.
(Execution Phase 2) Vote to ratify code and other core NFT components (e.g. artwork, etc.) by the community.
NFTs get upgraded. WOOOOO!!!! LFGGGGGGG.
