BRT-21: Should Bright Moments become a Worldcoin operator?

Voting ended over 2 years agoSucceeded

Bright Moments has been approached by the Worldcoin team to host an Orb, a hardware device used to verify proof-of-personhood through the Worldcoin protocol.

This vote is to determine whether Bright Moments should accept the proposal to become a Worldcoin operator. Participating in the Worldcoin program as an operator involves hosting an Orb and enabling local people to register with the Orb.

Here’s what saying yes would mean:

  • Bright Moments SubDAOs host an Orb
  • SubDAO galleries are listed on the Worldcoin directory, and participants who want to participate in the program can visit to register with the Orb
  • Each participating SubDAO receives a monthly financial stipend paid to the local SubDAO treasury

Arguments in favor of the proposal:

  • Financial Benefits: The SubDAOs of Bright Moments would receive a monthly financial stipend. This could provide a regular source of funding to support the organization's initiatives and activities.
  • Increasing Visibility and Footfall: By being listed on the Worldcoin directory, Bright Moments would likely gain increased exposure. This might lead to an increased footfall at galleries, potentially leading to higher art sales or greater community engagement.
  • Supporting Technological Innovation: By participating in the Worldcoin project, Bright Moments would be supporting the development of an innovative, open-source, technology-driven solution to income inequality. This could align with values of creativity, innovation, and social responsibility.
  • Community Engagement: By allowing the public to register with the Orb, Bright Moments could foster more community engagement, allowing people to participate in a potentially transformative socio-economic experiment.

Arguments against the proposal:

  • Privacy Concerns: Even though Worldcoin protocol takes measures to ensure the anonymity of the retina scan data, hosting an Orb and encouraging people to share biometric data might raise serious privacy concerns. This could potentially harm Bright Moments' reputation if not handled carefully.
  • Potential for Misuse: The data collected by the Orb could be targeted by malicious actors. If a security breach occurs, Bright Moments might be held partially responsible, leading to potential legal and reputational ramifications.
  • Resource Allocation: Hosting an Orb might demand additional resources, including staff time, space, and possibly security measures. These resources could otherwise be used for the organization's main activities and objectives.
  • Risk of Association: If Worldcoin were to become controversial or fail to deliver on its promises, Bright Moments could be negatively affected due to its association as a Worldcoin operator.
