Greetings Celo Africa Community

I'm excited to announce a proposal for the Celo Developer Workshop 3.0 that will happen on Saturday, 29th July 2023, in Kampala, at Innovation Village. The workshop will aim at bringing together community members, blockchain-curious and developers to learn, network and collaborate on building different ideas on the celo blockchain.

Objectives:

  • The main objective of the Celo Developer Workshop is to provide participants with in-depth knowledge and practical skills necessary to develop decentralized applications (dApps) on the Celo blockchain platform.
  • Foster Collaboration: Encourage developers to collaborate and work together, fostering a sense of community and cross-pollination of ideas.
  • Provide developer participants with the necessary resources, tools, and support to enhance their understanding and utilization of the Celo blockchain.
  • Expand Community: Attract new developers and community members, expanding the reach and impact of the Celo ecosystem.
  • Promote Adoption: Encourage developers to build and deploy real-world projects on Celo, driving wider adoption of Celo's technology.

Metrics to Track:

  • Attendance: We aim to have a minimum of 50 participants for the workshop.
  • Participant Satisfaction: Conduct post-workshop surveys to evaluate the overall satisfaction level, knowledge gained, and usefulness of the workshop content.
  • Project Development: Track the number of projects initiated or completed by the participants after the workshop.
  • Community Engagement: Encourage participants to join the Celo developer community, measure the number of attendees who actively engage in community social media platforms, contribute to open-source projects, or participate in hackathons.

Format of the Workshop:

  • The workshop will be a hybrid event, running for a period of 1 week. Participants will have access to:
  • Developer office hours
  • Celo Tutorials
  • Presentation: Presentation and judging of the ideas built before the workshop
  • Submissions and awarding of the best projects

The Flow of the workshop

  • Venue: This will be an In Person event but users can also participate online.
  • Live Coding: Live Coding takes the attendees through a simple use case that they will be working on and building during the session.
  • Teams Formation: Participants can organize and form teams or join existing teams to work on the projects.
  • Project Development: Provide participants with dedicated time to work on their projects, and developer office hours to support them when building.
  • Project Presentations: Participants will showcase their projects during the next workshop to the Community for judging based on predetermined metrics.

Budget

To successfully execute the Celo Developer Workshop, we estimate a budget of cUSD 600, which will cover expenses related to venue rental, snacks, swag and photography. The budget proposal seeks to cater for the venue costs, merchandise, rewards, lunch and tea break.
