This proposal seeks community approval to create a decentralized registry of service providers supporting the Onyx protocol, maintained transparently on Ethereum and governed exclusively by XCN token holders.
Overview:
Onyx relies on multiple service providers to deliver critical infrastructure such as:
• Node infrastructure and RPC endpoints
• API hosting and indexing services
• Web hosting and domain operations
• Analytics, monitoring, and other off-chain services
Currently, visibility into these providers is limited. This proposal aims to codify provider relationships in a transparent and modifiable Ethereum smart contract, controlled by governance.
What This Proposal Enables:
• Creation of a Smart Contract-Based Registry:
An Ethereum contract that lists all third-party or community service providers supporting the Onyx ecosystem.
• DAO Governance Control:
DAO members will vote to add, remove, or update providers and their metadata (e.g., service type, contact, wallet address, scope of work).
• Transparency & Accountability:
Anyone can view the contract to see which entities are currently servicing critical components of Onyx, and under what terms.
Delegation:
This registry could later be used to direct payments, assign reputation, or determine delegation rights for infrastructure responsibilities.
Implementation Details:
• The smart contract will be deployed on Ethereum.
• A simple governance module (e.g., controlled by the DAO or a multisig governed by the DAO) will manage updates.
• Only providers approved via DAO vote will appear in the registry.
Benefits:
• Strengthens transparency and trust in the Onyx infrastructure layer
• Empowers the community to make decisions about critical services
• Provides an auditable, on-chain source of truth for who is powering the ecosystem
