GIP: 0051 Title: Exponential Query Fee Rebates for Indexers Authors: Justin Grana, Howard Heaton, Tomás Migone
Description GIP-0051 proposes replacing the current query fee rebate distribution mechanism for an exponential function based one to alleviate the shortcomings of the Cobb-Douglas approach. This change requires upgrading the Staking, StakingExtension and RewardsManager contracts on L1 and L2. Additionally, the new mechanism requires setting the rebate parameters to the values recommended in the GIP (α=1 and λ=0.6).
To minimize potential query fee loses for indexers and guarantee a smooth transition the upgrade will be executed in two stages:
channelDisputeEpochs to 1 epoch) to facilitate indexer’s management of allocations and query fee collection. The date of execution for each stage will be announced publicly via The Graph’s forum and discord channels at least one week before it occurs. For more details on this two stage approach see the GIP.
This GGP proposes approving the upgrades from GIP-0051. Following a successful “yes” vote, the proposed updates from GIP-0051 will be executed following the test plan and deployment plan set out by the Edge & Node Smart Contracts team.
