Social EGP 20 - Implement Lucid’s Multi-Bridge Module for CLEAR Token Cross-Chain Asset Transfers

Voting ended about 1 year agoSucceeded

Abstract

Lucid is a no-code platform designed to simplify multi-chain operations in DeFi. Our modular architecture enables projects to seamlessly scale across L2 and L3 ecosystems, with powerful tools for managing liquidity, bridging, and governance—ensuring secure and scalable growth.

This proposal seeks to implement Lucid’s Multi-Bridge module to enhance Everclear’s cross-chain asset transfer capabilities. The solution provides configurable multi-bridge consensus mechanisms, native burn and mint functionality, and seamless integration with existing governance frameworks. Following discussions with the Governance Lead from the Foundation and subsequent technical review with the Governance Task Force, we propose this solution to address Everclear’s cross-chain infrastructure needs.

Motivation

As Everclear continues to expand across multiple chains, the need for secure and reliable cross-chain asset transfers becomes increasingly critical. The current single-bridge approach exposes the protocol to potential risks and single points of failure. With Everclear’s planned transition away from their legacy Connext bridge infrastructure, this presents an ideal opportunity to implement a more robust cross-chain solution.

Rationale

The implementation of Lucid’s Multi-Bridge module aligns with Everclear’s commitment to security, decentralisation, and efficient cross-chain operations. By distributing trust across multiple bridge providers and implementing configurable consensus mechanisms, this solution enhances the security and reliability of cross-chain transfers while maintaining operational efficiency.

Key Terms

  • Multi-Bridge Module: A system that enables cross-chain asset transfers using multiple bridge providers with configurable consensus requirements
  • xERC20: Token standard enabling native burn and mint functionality across chains
  • Consensus Mechanism: Configurable system requiring agreement from multiple bridges before executing transfers

Specifications

The Multi-Bridge module provides:

  1. Configurable multi-bridge consensus mechanism (recommended 2-of-3) across trusted bridge providers
  2. Zero-slippage cross-chain transactions using native burn and mint mechanisms
  3. Integration with Snapshot, Safe and Tally
  4. No-code interface for module selection, configuration and management
  5. Support for major bridge providers: Connext, Hyperlane, LayerZero, Wormhole, CCIP and Axelar

Security Features

  • Halborn security audit - full report accessible here
  • Creed security Spotcheck available in forum post
  • Integration with Hypernative the leading blockchain monitoring and threat detection provider
  • Time-lock period for the Security Council multisig to veto malicious messages
  • Granular rate limiting for each bridge (can be increased over time)
  • Multi-bridge consensus requirement

Steps to Implement

  1. Initial Setup with Governance Task Force
  • Configuration of Lucid organisation structure
  • Selection and activation of Multi-Bridge module
  1. Token Configuration
  • Import CLEAR token contract addresses for each supported chain
  • Setup/import admin multi-sigs for each chain deployment
  • Configure supported chains for asset transfers
  1. Bridge Configuration
  • Select and activate desired bridge providers (up to 6)
  • Set individual bridge mint and burn rate limits
  • Configure Multi-Bridge module limits (higher thresholds due to enhanced security)
  • Complete configuration review and verification
  1. Deployment
  • Deploy contracts through Lucid’s no-code interface
  • Execute multi-sig transactions to grant burn/mint permissions to asset controller contracts
  • Verification of deployments across all chains
  1. Integration with Governance
  • Setup connection with Snapshot for proposal execution
  • Documentation of process for creating cross-chain transfer proposals
  • Testing of end-to-end governance flow
  1. Community Access
  • The Bridge Portals module is the community-facing part of the platform, enabling access to Lucid’s bridging interface.
  • It supports community asset transfers through all activated bridges, offering routes through the cheapest or fastest paths.
  • Comprehensive documentation is provided for available transfer options and paths.

Upon completion, the Everclear team will be able to:

  • Create and execute cross-chain asset transfers through Snapshot governance
  • Leverage multiple bridge providers for enhanced reliability and security
  • Offer flexible transfer options to the community through the Lucid interface

Timeline

  1. Community Discussion
  • 1 week forum discussion period (November 18-25)
  1. Governance Process
  • 2 day vote delay period (January 2-4)
  • 7 day voting period (January 4-11)
  • 3 day execution delay (January 11-14)
  1. Implementation
  • Working with Security Council on setup and integration (January 14-16)
  • Mainnet testing (January 16-19)
  • Expected launch: January 20th
  • Post-launch monitoring and 24/7 support

Overall Cost

  • No upfront implementation costs
  • No monthly or annual subscription fees
  • No minimum volume requirements
  • Predictable pricing model
  • Pay-as-you-use structure

Fee Structure

  • Multi-Bridge Transfers
    • 0.3% fee on cross-chain transfers
    • All fees collected in CLEAR tokens
    • Example: $100,000 transfer = $300 in CLEAR tokens
  • Single Bridge Transfers
    • The relayer fee is a standard 30% fee built into our smart contracts, applying to all transfers using our bridge adapters.
    • Example: If a bridge fee costs $5, the relayer fee would be $1.50.
    • The relayer fee, charged in ETH, is required when using bridges that don’t natively support xERC20 transfers, as these transfers must go through our asset controller and bridge adapters.
    • All collected fees support operational costs, Lucid Labs’ R&D initiatives, and security audits.

This transparent fee structure ensures sustainable operations while aligning incentives with Everclear’s ecosystem growth. The collection of fees in CLEAR tokens demonstrates our long-term commitment to the protocol’s success.

About the Team

Lucid is led by Anthony Broderick (CEO) and Zacharias Mitzelos (CTO), with our founding team bringing a combined 20 years of experience across blockchain research, infrastructure development, and protocol design. Having worked closely with the Connext team over the past year, we share their vision of establishing the xERC20 standard as Web3’s premier bridging solution, offering unprecedented flexibility and security. We’re excited to partner with Everclear on their new chapter as we work together to shape the future of cross-chain infrastructure and build a more connected Ethereum ecosystem.
