Proposal to add antes in SNGs

Voting ended about 2 years agoFailed

SNG +Ante Proposal

What are antes?

Antes are tiny forced bets that each player pays preflop. An example of this:

15/30 4 ante small blind 15 + big blind 30 + 24 total ante = 69 pot preflop prior to any action.

Why add them?

Ante-less poker in SNG/MTTs is a structure of the past. Today most online poker sites do not even have ante-less SNGs on offer. This is for good reason, they are boring. Ante-less poker promotes for very tight play, and very dull play. If we want to reach more players, the SNGs have to be more fun to play.

Adding antes will spice the game up, the players folding 90% of hands will now bleed chips, players have more incentive to defend big blind because of bigger pot odds, players have more incentive to fight for pots in general. People will actually play poker and not a folding simulator.

With the addition of antes, we should increase start stack ever so slightly, to make sure the SNG does not become a all-in fest very quickly.

I propose the following SNG blind level structure.

Starting stacks and blind levels:
1500 for 3 shines and 1min blind levels 2000 for 15 shine and 3min blind levels 3000 for 30 and 4min blind levels 3000 for 60 and 4min blind levels 4000 for 99 shines and 5min blind levels 5000 for 1K shines and 5min blind levels

10/20 15/30 4 ante 20/40 5 ante 25/50 6 ante 40/80 10 ante 60/120 15 ante 80/160 20 ante 100/200 25 ante 150/300 25 ante 200/400 25 ante 250/500 50 ante 300/600 50 ante 400/800 50 ante

If this turns out to slow or to fast, we can fine tune the start stacks. For now, this seems like a good place to start.

Vote yes if YOU want to play poker and not a folding sim!
