[DSLA-IP_3] [ENG] Deprecate DSLA Protocol for BNB Smart Chain (BSC) Network

Voting ended over 3 years agoSucceeded

[DSLA-IP3] is a proposal to remove DSLA support for BNB Smart Chain (BSC) network. Maintaining support for BSC takes an outsized amount of Core Team resources due to significant and ongoing reliability issues with the BSC network.

These ongoing reliability issues limit any potential future expansion of DSLA functionality and make maintaining the current support a net negative for DSLA.

As such the recommendation is to deprecate support for BSC in the DSLA codebase and the dsla.network dApp.

Note: This proposal does not have any immediate bearing on the trading or availability of the DSLA utility token on the BSC network. There are no proposed changes regarding the availability of the DSLA utility token on BSC, liquidity currently supplied on Pancakeswap or bridge support.

Abstract

  • Running BSC node infrastructure is resource demanding and unstable mainly due to high block size, low block time and high transaction volume.
  • The Graph Indexing on BSC is by consequence challenging. (At the time of the writing hosted BNB graph was reported unreliable)

  • While BSC users can enjoy low transaction fees and fast processing (times due to the controlled number of validators) its value proposition is less relevant compared to L2 that are stable, performant and more Decentralized.

Rationale

Upkeep of support for BSC is a drain on limited Core Team resources that could better spend time and energy on other tasks. Overall, continuing to maintain BSC support is not a net positive and we therefore recommend deprecating support for the BSC network.

Proposal

  1. No deployment of DSLA v2 on BSC
  2. Provide 30 days notice via announcement channels of upcoming BSC support wind down
  3. Remove support for BSC in the dsla.network dAPP and supporting infrastructure (ie. indexing) effective at any time after 10-Oct-2022
  4. DSLA utility token availability, trading on Pancakeswap and bridge support will remain unchanged.
