EWB x FWB Pop Up

Abstract

Recently, a fun shitpost from FWB community member Jackson Dame evolved into crypto Twitter virality, with strong demand from that community for next steps.

This proposal is a response to continue that momentum by creating a temporary, fun, and partnered experience between these two internet groups.

How we respond to unpredictable cultural moments as a community will define our community.

Keep your Friends close; keep your Enemies closer.

Summary

On December 10th 2021, FWB community member Jackson Dame posted the following on Twitter (link):

As of December 12th 2021, the shitpost received over 4,000 addresses excited for an !airdrop.

The !airdrop participant list ranges from existing FWB members to friends of friends as well as other CT participants.

In the spirit of cooperation and belief that communities are stronger together, EWB would like to propose a collaboration with FWB by creating a temporary channel in the main FWB server to continue the party and act as a pop up community space for all those who responded to this cultural moment on the internet.

Details

Eligible EWB recipients will be those who responded to Jackson Dame’s tweet with a valid address from the windows of December 10th, 6:11pm PST to December 12, 6pm PST.

Eligible EWB recipients will receive a POAP designed and finalized by Jackson Dame.

Per this proposal, holders of the EWB POAP will gain access to a temporary EWB channel inside of the FWB server.

No other FWB channels will be granted to EWB holders.

The proposed channels will be:

• #ewb-lobby (for wallet connection)
• #ewb-gen-chat (general chat for all holders)

Tentative Channel Dates: 12/24/21-1/14/22. After channel dates are over, EWB + FWB moderators will decide based on activity and vibes if the channel should continue to exist by another proposal or to wind down the channel.

FWB will create a subsection on the server and audit the onboarding flow to ensure a strong experience for existing FWB and EWB holders alike. FWB will also have a light touch of community management to make sure there aren’t any negative externalities or griefers within this subsection.

The joining process for the POAP route in a way that doesn’t disrupt the main FWB onboarding flow (cf. Collabland, applications, etc)

Impact on the Broader FWB Community:

To reiterate, EWB POAP holders will not have access to other FWB channels, only the two proposed temporary channels above for a defined period of time.

Existing FWB holders will need to opt-in to the new role/channels by holding an EWB POAP.

The term “enemies”, while traditionally negative in connotation, is only tongue-in-cheek and does not imply any ill will or intent on behalf of the EWB community. Rather, Dame sees this as a fun and inclusive spinoff that would compliment FWB. That being said, EWB is currently a distributed group of several thousand people without a centralized meeting place or formally agreed upon principles. While Dame is currently leading EWB from a brand perspective, there is no formal governance or plans of action.

Budget:

N/A, Any POAP creation/sales/funds will operate independently of FWB, unless decided otherwise by Dame.

Benefits

• Respond to this cultural moment by being welcoming and inclusive vs. ignoring or dampening.
• Introduce a couple thousand new participants to the FWB brand and potentially convert a swath of individuals to apply and join FWB
• This movement is happening regardless, either FWB can participate in it and help steward it or ignore it which feels more risky.
• Demonstrate FWB doesn’t take itself TOO seriously

Drawbacks

• Potential negative unmoderated energy in the channels and opening “Pandora’s Box” with this experimental channel
