Season Three Membership Threshold

Summary

This proposal aims to ratify the amount of FWB tokens required to access Friends with Benefits for Season Three.

Abstract

Going into our third Season, Friends with Benefits has now gone through two iterations of raising the price to join by 5 FWB.

The original level to join Friends with Benefits was 50 FWB. This means every member held at least 50 FWB to access the token-permissioned Discord.

Season One was 55 FWB.

Season Two was 60 FWB.

This proposal looks to ratify the access level for Season Three - starting in early July.

Motivation

Four different options have been presented below. The goal of this proposal should be to assess how much (if at all) the membership access should change heading into Season Three.

Increased thresholds had the positive effect of requiring inactive members to top up their balance to retain membership. Historically, the most active members have earned more FWB than the increased threshold through SoucreCred, events or committees - meaning those typically affected by the change were inactive members.

This proposal looks to explore wider steps between the new membership threshold, with the intent to create more demand for FWB by requiring new and inactive members to obtain more FWB to join.

As outlined in the Evolution of FWB DAO, Season Three will provide the most opportunities to earn FWB to date, meaning all active members should have no issues retaining membership and growing their stake within the community.

Specification

Decide between the following options for Season 3 membership access.

60 FWB (+0)

No change. Keep the membership at the same level as Season Two.

65 FWB (+5)

Same change. Increase membership by the same amount as the past two Seasons.

75 FWB (+15)

Explore a slightly larger step to drive demand among the existing community from inactive members.

100 FWB (+40)

Explore a large step to create meaningful demand for FWB from most members for the start of Season 3.

Benefits

• Higher membership thresholds encourages more demand for FWB while requiring a higher degree of skin in the game.
• More circulating supply is being retained by active members of the community, rather than by speculators.
• Establish a precedent for membership thresholds to be decided each Season through governance, rather than programmatically at a fixed rate.

Drawbacks

• Larger expenditures from members to remain a part of the community.
• Certain members may have to purchase additional tokens if they’ve not earned enough from SourceCred, events and committees.
• High likelihood of a dropoff of inactive members not aware of the change in membership access.
