Vote to decide the Sponsorship Plans for Funding the Commons Hackathon

Voting ended over 2 years agoSucceeded

Background

The “Funding the Commons” Hackathon is an online event organized by Protocol Labs and also supported by Gitcoin and Filecoin, aimed at producing new public goods funding infrastructure for web3 and integrating existing public goods funding infrastructure in EVM ecosystems. The hackathon is scheduled to take place from Aug 11th to September 11th, culminating with presentations in Berlin. This event will bring together communities in web2, web3, academia, and philanthropy, focusing on challenges in public goods funding, exploring innovative solutions, and fostering collaboration between industry leaders, academia, and developers.

As a community committed to empowering public goods and services through blockchain technology, GCC recognizes the importance of supporting initiatives that align with its mission. By sponsoring this event, GCC can contribute to the development of the decentralized web and public goods, which is in line with GCC's mission.

The hackathon are expecting ~400 participants, based on previous hackathons they've run. They have Brave lined up as their media partner and also in talks with Github to get their support reaching out to their developer community.

As discussed in the weekly meeting of 2023-07-20, it is advised that GCC choose the following sponsorship plans, rather than other more ambitious ones.

Sponsorship Plans:

1 Donor package: 500U(sponsorship fees)

2 Supporter package: 1000U(sponsorship fees) + 200U(for workshop logistics) = 1200U

3 Builder package: 2500U (sponsorship fees) + 200U(for workshop logistics) = 2700U (excluding hackathon rewards)

*Hackathon challenge suggestions:

  • Design a platform/mechanism for onboarding non-native English-speaking blockchain developers to core Ethereum projects
