Proposal to Purchase a Karma License

-- Why --

A proposal to fund the purchase of a Karma license: https://www.showkarma.xyz/, a reputation scoring and metrics platform for DAOs by the GET Protocol DAO.

One of most important pieces to a well functioning DAO is engagement in the process of governance, conversation, communal development and enrichment, and voting. This is exacerbated in our case due to a number of factors in the design architecture: https://medium.com/get-protocol/the-path-to-governance-587b1a09d723 of the GET DAO that rely heavily upon direct interaction from the community. These include, but are not limited to:

• The Council is an arduous and consuming position to hold and requires a minimum of five members to hold it

• Governance operations take place at multiple levels including the Council, Community, and the Queue. Each of these requires a variance in the level of engagement required of members.

• The Queue embodies a number of delicate staking mechanics through the lens of game theory. As with any probability theory, engagement with the game is a prerequisite to success therein.

Additionally, GET Protocol relies heavily upon a social element spread across multiple social media outlets including Twitter for outreach and Discord for community engagement, conversation, and initiative building.

To that end, I propose an incentive alignment between the community and the protocol through the use of a reputation system. Karma provides a reputation dashboard that is public for any and all members, tracking a member’s activity across DAO related properties: Discord, on chain voting, Snapshot (off chain voting), analytics, etc. Reputation is calculated on a monthly rolling basis and provides an opportunity to keep the most active members rewarded through unique opportunities and specialized NFT collectibles as a simpler reward distribution than completing a bounty (low friction rewards). This calculated reputation follows the member across other DAOs using the Karma system, further incentivizing good and useful behavior.

This will have multiple measurable consequences, including:

• Higher membership retention
• Better rewards distribution for actively engaged members
• Higher voter turnout
• Higher quality proposals

Currently, overall engagement is being tracked through a combination of opaque methods (Discord analytics) and transparent ones (Discord polling, XP rewards). This proposal simply builds upon these methods, opens them to the community, and democratizes reputation in line with the DAO’s goals while using a more web3 native toolset to do it. Additionally, this tool requires no further disclosures on the part of the community: Everything happens on the backend based on each member’s current level of engagement and is no more or less anonymous than that member has already been.

Karma has quoted us between $3-5k for onboarding costs with the possibility of a monthly fee enacted at some later date. For now, I propose to pay the onboarding fee out of the DAO funds with a maximum approved spend of USD $5,500.00, with any future fees to be revisited as needed. Once onboarded GET Protocol would use current data from Discord and Snapshot to track engagement, with our subgraph, Tally, and proposal drafts to come at a later date with the full launch of the DAO. Coinvise may be added in through a custom integration, but at additional cost. This will be tabled for the time being and revisited at a later date if the concept is proven.
