This proposal advocates for transitioning the license of Exactly's EscrowedEXA.sol contract from BUSL to MIT. The shift aims to facilitate the integration of the contract into Parifi perpetuals reward distribution mechanism and other potential projects in the future within the DeFi ecosystem. The proposed change not only resolves a licensing barrier but also extends a generous gesture from Exactly DAO, bolstering its credibility as a leading protocol in the web3 space
The EscrowedEXA contract was created as part of the reward program following the airdrop that took place in July. After an initial token distribution, the decision was made through EXAIP-01 to transition to a more stable rewards system, introducing a new esEXA token powered by the EscrowedEXA contract. A thorough audit by ABDK and OpenZeppelin ensured the contract's security and reliability. Exactly's EscrowedEXA contract leverages the innovative Sablier V2 NFT token streams to optimize the distribution of rewards, offering a distinct advantage to the Exactly ecosystem. The solution aligns with Exactly's commitment to innovation in decentralized finance, bringing efficiency to the distribution of rewards and contributing to the overall success and sustainability of the protocol.
However, Parifi, seeking to incorporate this contract into its perpetual protocol, faces a licensing hurdle as the current protocol codebase, including EscrowedEXA, is licensed under BUSL license.
This proposal advocates for replacing the BUSL license, specifically for the EscrowedEXA contract, with the more permissive MIT License. By doing so, it enables projects like Parifi to fork the contract, fostering collaboration and innovation within the DeFi space.
Following the requirements of the MIT License, Parifi will be required to include Exactly’s copyright notice and license their forked version of the contract under the MIT License as well.
This would be a generous gesture from the Exactly DAO and benefit Exactly in the following ways:
The current BUSL license shall be moved to a new LICENSES folder at the root of the Exactly codebase. In this folder, a new MIT License shall be introduced. For the EscrowedEXA contract, the upper license mention shall be changed from “BUSL-1.1” to “MIT License”.
This pull request implements the above suggested changes.
By adopting this proposal, Exactly DAO can not only eliminate a licensing barrier for Parifi, but also strengthen its position as a collaborative and responsible protocol in the DeFi ecosystem. This move aligns with the principles of open-source collaboration and can pave the way for future partnerships and contributions to Exactly's continued success.
