With the upcoming Chaos live event at NFT.NYC, the chief goal is to create a crescendo moment that formally brings the Chaos camp to an end in an intentional way. This proposal suggests that the most impactful way to achieve this goal is to bring together as many members of Chaos as possible for this IRL event.
This proposal requests funds of ~$16,740 USD from the Chaos Common Pool to subsidize travel costs (flights, trains, etc.) for Chaos members to be able to attend and participate in a live event at NFT.NYC (April 12-14 2023). We would aim to get as many band members out to NYC as possible to be a part of this night.
This proposal provides two potential avenues for determining how to best distribute these funds, with the goal of increasing attendance at this Chaos live event. In the event that this proposal reaches a final vote, three options will be presented; “Option A”, “Option B”, and “No”. Both “Option A” and “Option B” will be considered as votes in favor of passing this proposal, with the most voted for option determining the method for subsidy calculation.
This option gives each participating Chaos member an equal subsidy amount, determined only by the number of Chaos members attending the event. This is calculated by dividing the $16,740 subsidy budget by the amount of attending Chaos members.
| # of People | Subsidy/Person |
|---|---|
| 77 | $217.40 |
| 55 | $304.36 |
| 40 | $418.50 |
| 30 | $558.00 |
(This table is for demonstrative purposes only, and the final subsidy/person will be calculated with the exact number of members attending)
This option gives each participating Chaos member a subsidy amount relative to the cost of their flight. This would result in Chaos members who live further away from NYC receiving a larger subsidy than Chaos members who live closer to NYC, due to the increased cost of travel.
To calculate the subsidy amount, there will be four categories, each pertaining to a different flight cost range. When using this option, it is more challenging to determine ahead of time what the end subsidy per person will be, since this number is heavily impacted by the amount of attendees, and the cost of their travel plans.
Below is a sample of how the subsidy may be distributed based on these four different ranges of flight costs.
Sample Distribution
| Flight Costs | Assumed # of people | Subsidy / person |
|---|---|---|
| $0 - $400 | 25 | $202.91 |
| $401 - $600 | 15 | $304.36 |
| $601 - $800 | 10 | $405.82 |
| $801+ | 5 | $608.73 |
| Totals | 55 |
This table assumes 55 people are travelling to NYC for illustrative purposes. Actual subsidy amounts may differ depending on the amount of members who participate in the subsidy program, and the cost of their flights/travel. The Songcamp Operations Team’s flight costs will not be subsidized through this proposal. A more detailed calculation can be found at the end of this document**
If either “Option A” or “Option B” are selected, there will be a simple submission process for Chaos members to opt-in to this flight subsidy.
Upon the successful passing of this proposal, the Songcamp operations team will share a form through which members can provide their preferred Ethereum wallet address, and the details of their travel expenses by providing an image of their flight booking/receipt. If “Option B” is selected, this receipt will also show that the booking is for an “economy” level flight class.
This submission form will remain open until March 29th, 2023, two weeks before the live event.
Once submissions close, each individual’s subsidy amount will be calculated according to the option selected (“Option A” or “Option B”)
Within one week of the submission deadline, the Chaos Common Pool multisig wallet will convert ~$16,740 USD worth of ETH to USDC, and send the appropriate subsidy amount to each participating individual via a USDC transfer to the Ethereum wallet address they provided during the submission process.
We hope that every Chaos member will be able to participate in this live event, and the flight subsidy program. However, we recognize that some Chaos members will not be able to attend for various reasons, and as a result, will not directly financially benefit from the passing of this proposal, and the use of these Common Pool funds.
With this in mind, we still believe that using the Common Pool funds in this manner will be a net positive for all Chaos members, regardless of their ability to participate in the live event and subsidy program. By focusing on gathering as many Chaos members together, using the incentive of this subsidy program, we will be able to create the most impactful crescendo moment to mark the formal end of Chaos as a primary focus of Songcamp.
Additionally, we believe the “burning” of remaining Chaos packs, paired with the cultural documentation of this event will result in increased Chaos pack sales and increased long-term value of Chaos songs and packs, respectively.
In addition to the reality that some Chaos members may not be able to take advantage of this subsidy program as described above, other risks of passing this proposal exist.
In using this $16,740 of common pool funds, we eliminate the possibility of this funding going towards Chaos initiatives potentially spearheaded by other Chaos members in the future.
However, as we collectively focus on the graceful end to Chaos initiatives supported by the Songcamp operations team, we believe that using this opportunity to bring Chaos members together for an IRL celebration is the most impactful route forward.
