Naming Convention for Cross-Chain Assets

Voting ended over 4 years agoSucceeded

⭐️ This proposal originates from a recent forum post in the IoTeX forum.

Historically, assets bridged from other blockchains have special naming conventions and display symbols on the IoTeX Network, to denote that they are cross-chain assets.

However, the current naming convention was not initially designed to support many blockchains: it is too long, confusing, especially once more and more blockchains will be supported by the iotube bridge.

For this reason, we need a new naming convention that is shorter and easier to understand.

In short, this proposal suggests to:

  1. Leave the symbol unchanged for
  • any native tokens bridged from their origin blockchain. For example, ETH from Ethereum, BNB from Binance Smart Chain, MATIC from Polygon.
  • any layer-2 tokens bridged from their origin blockchain. For example, most stable coins on the Ethereum blockchain like USDT, USDC, UNI, etc...
  1. Add a short suffix to all tokens that come from a blockchain that is not their origin network. For example, USDC from Polygon becomes USDC_m, USDT from Binance Smart Chain becomes USDT_b.
