(1) Title: Riverview Site Partnership Trial
(2) Authors: jess (jkroubs#4337), with support from dustin (DustinG#3723) & mo (inarkas#5329)
(3) Overview: Execute a 3-month trial site partnership from April through June 2023 with the Riverview RV campground located outside Rocky Mountain National Park in CO.
(4) Motivation:
Location:
We’ve heard through member feedback that the Rockies are a priority for geographical expansion, in addition to an openness for more sites with less amenities (campsite > house), and access to National Parks. This will provide a space for current members to call home outside the west coast and will allow us to market to prospective members - both digitally and IRL at Riverview - before peak summer travel.
Site terms & arrangements:
We’re still testing different types of co-living arrangements, and sharing spaces with non-Kift groups (co-living of another kind) is an affordable way to expand our footprint.
Entering a trial agreement is a low risk opportunity to experience co-living alongside non-Kifters and will provide guidance to whether this is an arrangement we’d like to extend for Riverview and/or other co-living opportunities in the near future.
Relationship building:
This site is co-owned by a Kift DAO member and 2022 Summer Solstice participant (MDY#8143) and the owners have a long term vision of expanding to locations Kift would ultimately like to expand to (multiple locations in CO).
(5) Rationale: This location not only supports our core mission of creating gathering spaces across the globe but also supports the prioritization of ensuring access to the outdoors.
Sharing a space with those outside the immediate Kift community will allow us to build a shared community that enforces our value of recognizing and hold sacred the value of each individual. We will build authentic community and foster connection by gathering with 1) Kift members in our exclusive Kift spaces and 2) the broader community in shared spaces. Activities will be open ended and executed by on-site members as desired throughout the trial (e.g., cooking, exercising, music, morning check-ins, etc), and hopefully some in coordination with Riverview guests.
(6) Responsible Parties:
Real Estate Pod - Negotiating terms & finalizing agreement with the site owner. Owns overall success criteria & occupancy metrics to support next steps post trial. Identifies the local Indigenous tribes and conducts due diligence to ensure the land is not part of any Indigenous rematriation efforts. Point of Contact for site owner.
IRL Community Pod - Cozification & On-site space setup. Best practices and conflict management guidance for co-living within the Riverview community. Initiate & develop relationship with local Native Tribe(s). Responsible for setting a process to gather and communicate critical site feedback with RE pod leads for measuring qualitative metrics.
Digital Community Pod - Marketing collateral updates
Tech & Design Pod - Member platform updates to allow site bookings during trial period
Equity & Inclusion Pod - Advise RE & IRL pods in regards to relationships with Native Tribe(s) and other community involvement practices.
Tech + IRL Pods: 100% accuracy for member bookings in the booking platform for this site. This will be a joint effort as it’s not currently enforced or required with existing sites.
(7) Steps to Implement:
Assuming a vote in favor of this proposal:
a. By Jan 31: Sign partnership agreement with site owner. b. By Feb 15: Update booking platform, collateral & marketing material. Open reservations to members for the 3 month period. c. March: Site visit to ensure Kift designated spaces are clear of debris and ready for visitors, cozification needs d. March-April: Initiate and develop relationship with local Native Tribe(s). e. April 1: Open for member reservations f. May: Welcome event g. April - June: Trial period (ongoing): Collect quantitative (occupancy) & qualitative (member feedback) data h. June: Determine next steps with Kift community & Site owner. If the decision is to extend, draft & sign new agreement
(8) Timeline: Trial period: April 1 - June 30, 2023
(9) Overall Cost: Assuming 30-40% average occupancy (20 van capacity limit), the cost for the three month trial will be <= $6,500.
This includes site rent, insurance, basic community supplies, and exclusive use of one room in a low house at the campsite.
We request the funds from this trial from Kift, Inc., and not from the DAO treasury.
(10) Success Metrics: A successful trial will collect the following data and stick to budget.
A successful trial may not result in an extension of this particular site but will help guide decision making for future partnerships.
