G League Exploration

Goal

The goal for the G League Ownership Exploration project (less terrible name pending) is to serve as a feasibility study for KH's entry into the G League as a team owner. Though the primary goal is exploratory in nature, we also hope to establish relationships within the G League community that could progress beyond the original scope of the project. Our hope with the project is to:

  1. Gain a robust understanding of the relevant factors impacting team ownership, including regulatory, economic, and technical aspects
  2. Connect with G League owners, front office employees, and other relevant parties to glean insights on best practices and DAO ownership possibilities
  3. Establish initial relationships within the G League community to get KH on the radar for future opportunities

We hope to build off of the exploratory memo I assembled with input from other community members here.

Proposed Deliverables and Work

By the end of Season 2, we hope to produce the following items and outcomes:

  1. A report detailing the various paths to ownerships, the implications of each approach, potential targets, capital requirements, League considerations, and tangible next steps for each approach depending on what the DAO views as the most attainable/desirable
  2. Collateral, in the form of a one-pager or similar marketing material, detailing the add value Krause House provides to potential partners, including but not limited to the G League. This collateral will supplement our outreach to G League stakeholders and can be used for tangentially related outreach campaigns to other leagues like the WNBA
  3. Depending on the interest from G League and organizations, we hope to forge new relationships via cold outreach and warm connections surfaced from the DAO’s members. We hope these relationships will yield feedback on what the DAO would need to do to be seriously considered as an owner
    1. Ideally, we will make contact with pertinent stakeholders and convince them to meet with us via video calls. In this case, we can source questions from KH contributors and record the calls to glean insights

Add Value to Krause House

As a result of this exploration, we hope to provide the DAO with a better understanding of what each path to G League ownership would entail, as well as the relevant implication of each. We also hope to produce external-facing collateral to share with potential partners (within the G League and beyond) detailing the add-value KH brings to organizations and leagues. Should we succeed in speaking to relevant G League stakeholders, the DAO would greatly benefit from the insights and validation derived from said conversations.

Add Value to the G League

Through a DAO ownership model, the G League can enable millions of basketball fans the chance to own and meaningfully influence the decisions of a professional basketball franchise. By opening itself up to DAO ownership, the league will increase awareness, engagement, and evangelization of a franchise, as well as the league broadly. Tangibly, this will result in increased TV viewership, merchandise sales, and ticket revenue, among other monetary benefits. Partnering with a DAO also serves as a portal to Web3, enabling the NBA to experiment with new forms of progressive, community-focused governance/ownership structures. Additionally, the league can leverage the DAO and its Web3 native members to launch revenue-generating projects such as NFTs, play-to-earn games, and betting platforms.

Team

The effort will be co-led by myself (matt #0908) as well as Brandan (Brandan #3793). In the coming days, I will look to amass a larger team of contributors through the appropriate Discord channels. We will use the allocated compensation to incentivize contribution via bounties or to-do tasks.

Compensation

We are requesting 300 $KRAUSE as a base compensation to complete the aforementioned work. To further incentivize our project team to exceed base goals, we are proposing the following milestone-based compensation:

  • 1,000 $KRAUSE for a recorded video call(s) with an ownership representative of a franchise, front office executive of a franchise, league office representative (managerial level or above, or anyone in the the partnerships division)
  • 1,000 $KRAUSE for a Discord (or similar platform) AMA from an ownership representative of a franchise, front office executive of a franchise, league office representative (managerial level or above, or anyone in the the partnerships division)

Reward compensation will be capped at 2,000 $KRAUSE total (1,000 for a call and AMA respectively).
