Kromatika DAO Manifesto - (28th OCT, 2022)

Voting ended over 3 years agoSucceeded

Summary: Guidelines to the KromatikaDAO structure. The 5 different guilds and their responsibilities are outlined here.

Abstract (WHAT) We propose a change in the governance of the Kromatika protocol. Transitioning from central figures to the DAO community, the decision-making power now rests upon the shoulders of the community. Community members can now join any one of the suitable guilds, contribute with their skills/talent, and help grow the protocol. Community members will also see the procedure to create proposals and vote.

Motivation (WHY) Kromatika was created to promote decentralization. Kromatika belongs to the people and was created for the people. Hence transitioning to a DAO will allow the very users of this platform to steer the project in the way that seems beneficial to them and the project. In the spirit of true decentralization, we believe that the collective talents and skills of our worldwide community will enable Kromatika to be a success.

Specification (HOW) View the text below for details of the Kromatika DAO governance structure and manifesto.

What is a DAO? A decentralized autonomous organization, or DAO simply means that an organization has no central authority nor is it run from a centralized location (e.g. a single server). A DAO is an organization run by the people, for the people.

Why a DAO? As a project led by the people — aka DAO — transparency and community control over the project are its core strengths. All decisions are made using off-chain voting using snapshots, followed by an execution on smart contracts, directly on the blockchain. The project can, at no point, be controlled or steered by a single individual or entity. Any of the protocol’s rules can be changed at any time through a community vote. This also implies that all suggestions/proposals can turn into reality. Example: Do you have an idea on how to improve the protocol, how to promote it or how to receive funding/grants etc? Put in your proposal for the community to see. Then the community will vote on your proposal. The community (delegates) have full autonomy for their decision making and if your proposal received a majority YES vote, it will go through and be executed. As simple and straightforward as that! Governance step by step Create a new proposal on discord gov-discussions using the [KCP] Template

The community discusses and gives feedback on the submitted proposal for a week (7days). The feedback and discussion take place on discord gov-discussions.

a) After feedback has been given and the proposal updated (if needed), the delegates signal that the proposal is ready to go to snapshot voting and they are willing to support it. This signaling can be done simply by each delegate posting a text message that they approve the proposal. This signaling phase is often known as the “temperature check” phase and lasts for a week. Example of delegate’ approval message: I am a Kromatikan delegate with sufficient voting power and I believe this proposal is ready to move to a vote.

b) To kick start the process of sending the draft proposal forward to snapshot voting, Kromatika will temporarily hold a temperature check on the draft proposal where Kromatika community members can either vote YES with a Kromatika Logo Icon or NO with a X icon. This temporary temperature check will be in place until the DAO delegates are chosen and have sufficient voting power.

c) In the future, once the delegates are selected, for a proposal to go through to snapshot voting, it should pass the delegate voting as follows: At least 3 delegates, each with a minimum of 50000 $KROM voting power need to sign in agreement of the proposal on Discord.(Voting power = KROM held by an individual + KROM delegated to the individual if the said individual is a delegate.) d) To become a delegate join discord gov-delegates. If you choose to assign your voting power to a delegate that aligns with your views click assign-power. If you are a $KROM holder and don’t want to delegate your voting power to anyone, you can either participate in governance yourself or contribute by snapshot voting on proposals that pass the “temperature check” phase.

  1. If the proposal is approved, it moves to the next phase as follows: An official proposal will be created on Snapshot whereby the community votes. The voting period lasts for a week (7 days).

  2. If the proposal gets approved by the community through snapshot voting, the approved proposal will be added as a task on dework.

  3. Now, the proposal has officially turned into a task that must be executed. The progress of this task will be transparent and viewable by the community on dework.

Kromatika DAO Guilds: There are 5 DAO guilds in the Kromatika DAO -

  1. Growth: The Growth Guild presents different tasks mostly aimed at growing different channels of the KromatikaDAO, and increasing the reach and impact of all Kromatika activities. It is responsible to explore different growth/engagement tactics and campaigns to increase the size of the Kromatika community
  2. Copyrighting: The Copywriting Guild is in charge of translating into words, all news, updates and developments happening in the Kromatika ecosystem. The KromatikaDAO Copywriters are a group of Web3 enthusiasts, interested in all things DeFi, DEX and DAO, bringing the protocol's awareness to the rest of the Web3 space.
  3. Engineering: The Engineering Guild aims to decentralize the development pipeline for the Kromatika protocol. Projects and tasks listed within the engineering guild will directly contribute to the core product and how users interact with it. Domains such as back-end, devops, front-end, QA, etc fall under the engineering guild responsibilities.
  4. Ops: The Ops Guild oversees all the guilds, coordinates with their members, onboards new KromatikaDAO members, and proposes transactions to the signers guild originating from DAO decisions.
  5. Signers: The Signers Guild is a special guild that executes the decisions from the DAO guilds and DAO gov proposals. Signers have discrete powers defined by the KromatikaDAO members. Signers guild members are multisigners of the DAO kromfund.eth. Manifesto: Kromatika is not a company. It does not have a board, no CEO, no team of managers. No room for bureaucrats.

Kromatika does not have private investors. No VCs, no agents, no SPVs that are pulling the strings in the background.

Kromatika does not cater to speculators. Kromatika is agnostic to price.

Kromatika does not have an official voice. There is no legal entity, there is no foundation, no copyright, no patent, no central authority to stamp announcements.

Kromatika is not owed anything from anyone. Contributors come together and work on this project voluntarily. Nobody has authority over anyone else, nobody owes Kromatika anything.

Kromatika is a collective of contributors. There is no difference between "the team" and "the community", they are one and the same.

Kromatika is for builders and collaborators. Come with ideas, come with passion, come with creativity. Actions speak louder than words. Have an idea that you believe will do good to the protocol? Make suggestions boldly via Kromatika channels.

Kromatika is governed by $KROM. Holding $KROM entitles you to vote for real, practical changes that improve Kromatika.

Kromatika can evolve. How Kromatika began, and what Kromatika is today, may not be what it is tomorrow-- what you do after reading this may change Kromatika forever. It is up to you.

It all starts by joining the DAO / governance. Become a delegate, participate in the DAO tasks, make suggestions.

ASSOCIATED COSTS:

In order to reduce bureaucracy, a “petty cash” wallet will be funded with a small amount of KROM. This KROM will be directed towards immediate marketing/development/protocol costs including any external services that are run on a trial period or temporary basis.

Kromatika DAO Incentive Structure: (for Kromatika core contributors)

Time commitment: Time Tier Description Factor Tier 1 Join the core contributors < 1 months 0.6 Tier 2 1 months < Join the core contributors < 3 months 0.7 Tier 3 Join the core contributors > 3 months 0.8

Contribution: Contribution Tier Description Factor

Low: You only help in one particular area. Ex, only write tweets, or manage the twitter account. This level does not take more than 1 - 1.5 hours of your day. 0.5 Medium: You are active throughout the day and help on several fronts. Ex: you answer twitter, discord, telegram, lead a non-english community, help with AMA, help with organizing FAQ. Write up content for a blog post. Maybe, talk to potential promoters, do some research on potential partners etc. This should maybe burn 3-4 hours of your day, either spread through-out the day, or maybe after work activity. 1 High: You try hard for the project. Ex. you are coding the web, you help around the DApp, you go out of your way to promote the project. You endup burning 6-7 hours a day on this project. 1.25

Formula: Incentive formula (in $KROM) on weekly basis:

Incentive ($KROM) = Time_Tier_Factor X Contribution_Tier_Factor X 7000

Rules: Product kickstarted on 17th November 2021 (Wednesday), which means that Wednesday is the weekly cutoff date. The incentive only applies for core contributors. Every core contributor needs to claim his incentive (reward) on a weekly basis, ideally on Wednesday for the previous week (Wednesday to Tuesday). Every claim will be evaluated by Ops in the next following days after Wednesday and either approved or disputed. If approved, payouts will happen on the next payout day. Payouts will happen twice a month, at the beginning of the month and somewhere in the middle of the month. We will bundle payout to reduce cost fees. Payouts will be done from DAO kromfund multisig wallet, triggered by Signers. If some contributor has used some personal funds for the project they will also be compensated for those funds when the payouts happen. For now, this is mostly the case where someone has to payout out of pocket one-time services. One time marketing pushed, one time logo design etc. These expenses can not always be done in KROM but compensations will be done in KROM.
