LDIP-4 Use $LEAG token to determine Fantasy League Draft Order

SUMMARY

This is a proposal is to use $LEAG tokens to determine the order of Player Drafts in V2 of the LeagueDAO Fantasy Football protocol.

DESCRIPTION

As refresher, the 2022 League will utilize the Mega-League structure discussed in prior forum posts. There will be one LeagueDAO sponsored Mega-League that is comprised of 12-team Divisions.

Each Division will have its own Player Token Draft where Team Owners will purchase the 20 +/- player nfts that will make up their team.

For the Player Draft, we will be using a Serpentine or Snake Draft format. Team Owners will be ordered 1-12 and get to pick and purchase a player NFT only once their turn comes up in the order.

The proposal is to determine the draft order for each Division in the 2022 Fantasy Football League according to the amount of $LEAG or $vLEAG tokens each Team Owner holds in their wallet. The Team Owner with the most $LEAG and/or $vLEAG in their wallet will get the first pick in their Division’s Player NFT Draft. Team Owners that do not hold any $LEAG tokens will be ordered at random among the remaining spots left after the Team Owners who hold $LEAG.

MOTIVATION

This is part of an on-going effort to integrate the $LEAG token into our protocols so that it serves as a base value with utility across different facets of the fantasy sports game model.

This proposal gives a strategic advantage to the LeagueDAO community and also provides an alternative to having all draft positions assigned at random. We see this use case of the $LEAG token as competitive perk but not something that would significantly disrupt the game by giving $LEAG holders or whales an unnecessary advantage in the League.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

We would include $LEAG and $vLEAG tokens to ensure that community members who have staked their $LEAG tokens in the DAO in order to participate in governance are not punished for this. $vLEAG tokens are the ERC-20 tokens you receive when you stake $LEAG tokens in the DAO.

ARGUMENTATION

FOR

Simple application of the $LEAG token into a core component of the game that creates a meaningful competitive advantage for those who hold the token Gameifies the Draft order process. Once a Team Owner is assigned to a Division they can see the initial draft order and now have a way secure a better position in the draft, they are not stuck with the initial position they are assigned. Because of the number of skill players in the football league and the depth of fantasy rosters, as well as injuries and other factors that arise during the season, getting the #1 draft pick does not immediately correlate to a winning team. So those who do not hold League still have a fair opportunity to win their Division and the Mega-League.

AGAINST

This has the potential to create a significant strategic advantage for whales and as a result impact the game experience for the average team owner.
