SUMMARY

DeVox is the culmination of months of ideation and discussion, and promises to become a central practice for Lobby3, both as a social welfare organization and as a collective of passionate web3 advocates.

In short, it will be a petitioning protocol, which allows users to create and publish messages, as well as sign and donate to existing messages. The idea here is to decentralize certain aspects of lobbying and compliance, by crowdsourcing the policy positions which are advocated, and crowdfunding certain aspects of such advocacy.

We will be seeking developers (who will propose development roadmaps) to build DeVox, and we have split this into a frontend RFP (UI/UX) and a backend RFP (smart contracts). Each will have the same budget, and the goal for both is to achieve a minimum viable product, upon which we may continue iterating and improving.

BACKGROUND

The conversations around a petitioning protocol go back into Fall 2022, if not earlier, as inspired by certain examples, such as Signature Economies 1 and DoinGud’s manifesto 1. During the D.C. event, Aphilos had the idea for a protocol to crowdfund certain political actions, and this, combined with some of the ideas from the petitioning protocol, is what ultimately led to the conception of DeVox.

For a high level overview of how we envision the protocol, please see this slide deck 1.

For more in-depth technical information, see the frontend RFP document.

MISSION & VALUES ALIGNMENT

DeVox will be a concrete way to decentralized certain aspects of advocacy and lobbying, around which our mission has revolved since our launch.

SCOPE OF WORK

This budget, if approved by the Lobby3 Legacy Community, will be managed by the core team, who will interface with various prospective developers, with the intention to get the MVP built. Greater specification is available in the RFP document.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

15 ETH (around $25,000 at this time) will be appropriated for the development of this MVP.

BRAND USAGE

DeVox will be marketed as Lobby3’s flagship product/protocol, and will ultimately be treated as a public good, or a “civic primitive” of you will (within the context of Decentralized Civics). Lobby3 will likely manage its own centralized instance of DeVox, in the interest of compliance, but it will ideally remain forkable for others to run their own instances however they see fit - provided such an approach doesn’t raise any legal concerns.

SUCCESS METRICS OR KPIS

This proposal will be successful if, in conjunction with the other RFP proposal, there results a minimum viable product for DeVox, IE a protocol and interface which can be used to send, sign, and donate to messages.

NEXT STEPS

Disburse to the core team 15 ETH, which will constitute a fund for this particular RFP. Then, during ETH Denver and onward, the Lobby3 core team will spread awareness of the RFP , field applications, and engage with developers.

By voting in favor of this proposal at the draft stage, you are also accepting that the active proposal will make use of the quadratic voting method, in addition to a sybil-resistant whitelist of all tokenholders at the moment this draft proposal is posted. This measure is being taken in the interest of protecting the decentralized integrity of the Lobby3 Legacy DAO, in light of recent plutocratic circumstances.

TEAM BACKGROUND

Aphilos has been Lobby3 Core since Fall 2022, Saulthorin and Clinamenic have been Lobby3 Core since early 2022.
