SUMMARY

I was Yang Gang 2020 and so very excited to learn he had helped found a web3 focused organization in Lobby3! Discovering the most effective ways to contribute while balancing time were hard to find. I started by overhauling the Lobby3 gitcoin grants page, which took 24 hours of focused work over a few weeks and has been granted roughly ~49,000 (forty-nine thousand). This work earned an invitation to the Lobby3 Leadership Summit in Washington DC, October 2022, where my immersion with everyone from Andrew Yang, to Renee and Spencer, to ETHHeadGonzo and many other Lobby3 leaders, who inspired what we believe will revolutionize lobbying and give web3 its own voice: DeVox 1. The concept came between beers and laughter: Decentralized Voice, aka DeVox. Since then, I have become a part of the Lobby3 Core Team and we have been working diligently to transform Lobby3 into an organization that can, among other things, launch DeVox in time for the 2024 Presidential Election (See “SCOPE OF WORK” for more details)

BACKGROUND

There has been productive debate around this notion of self-assigned or appointed contributors being compensated from the DAO treasury, being comprised of the funds of Lobby3 Members, whose collective decision was not formally involved in the aforementioned assignment of work.

The approach we have been taking is to make these proposals for “retroactive compensation” in order to recognize this work. This way, core team members can take initiative and execute, and receive payment later, so long as they believe their work will be recognized by the community.

MISSION & VALUES ALIGNMENT

“Lobby3 is an organization committed to using distributed ledger technology to amplify the voices and secure the rights of those seeking a more meaningful mode of civic engagement. To further this mission, we will fund open-source technology, and engage in advocacy efforts, public education, and thought leadership.”

This is the new Lobby3 Mission Statement, which, I hope you agree, DeVox is perfectly aligned with.

SCOPE OF WORK

The prior work to be retroactively compensated, for a total of nine (9) ETH, includes:

Developing the DeVox product strategy with the core team Creating DeVox branding, messaging, and marketing collateral Exercising DeVox marketing collateral with Lobby3 Members, associates, and in-person focus groups at Tech Alley Developing community management strategies that learn from Lobby3 challenges, including whale or sybil attacks and disruptive behavior on discord, and ensuring effective management of DeVox within Lobby3 Writing the bylaws, with advice from Spencer and LexDAO, for the new Lobby3 Unincorporated Nonprofit Association (UNA) 501c4 Securing marketing partnerships for DeVox, including Perspective Strategies 1 Developing the DeVox product itself, and letting the Request For Proposal (RFP) to get engineering work started. Promoting DeVox at ETH Denver with “DeVox DeTournement” and swag In general, I have been contributing roughly 20 hours a week to Lobby3 since we conceptualized DeVox in October, minus holidays, totaling approximately ~280 hours of work. A consultant charging $150 / hour would charge 28 ETH. A FTE employee of Lobby3 would cost ~$150k / year, earning 14 ETH. My goal is to create an organization that supports real careers in web3 lobbying, from DeVox promotion bounties to lobbying partnerships, and so I’m asking nine (9) ETH.

9 ETH is to be earmarked and disbursed to Sean Moore Gonzalez (0x8Ee927f5a31EbA81b02AB1Ffc74289b32a505D35).

Because this proposal is retroactive in nature, the primary success metric is the cumulative work for which this proposal seeks compensation.

Reserve 9 ETH for compensation to active community members and community leads.
