Request $6000 USD in ETH to pay for a response to the UK patent examiner. Lobby3 will have license to use the patent in its products and OEM products, as well as an opportunity to revenue share in the patent. Along with VitaDAO, Lobby3 will gain recognition as a pioneer in web3 patent technologies.

BACKGROUND

Patents offer a novel opportunity for Web3!

Patents exist to encourage inventors to open source their work under a common provenance. However, patents have somewhat lost their way in modern times; in practice, patents end up stifling inventors rather than encourage them.

VitaDAO is pioneering how patents can return to their purpose using NFTs, Introducing the IP-NFT V2 1 . If done right, licensing patents with NFTs will bring patent law back to its intended purpose of encouraging inventors to open source within a unified Commons provenance.

Other than VitaDAO, patents are uncommon in web3. But Lobby3 can change that! Lobby3 has the opportunity to support a lone inventor (very rare occurance these days) on the ground floor.

MISSION & VALUES ALIGNMENT

The patent will be used to allow Lobby3 to 1) develop its products as groundbreaking open source while also 2) build a passive financial flywheel and 3) successfully steward the development of derivative products by arms-length entities.

By helping modern patent licensing better align with its purpose via web3 technology, Lobby3 will play an important role in proving web3 tech can be used for incomparable positive impact to society.

Lobby3 has the potential to expand its treasury with patent revenue, which it can reinvest in various Lobby3 initiatives.

SCOPE OF WORK

The UK patent agent will respond to the UK examiner.

The patent owner and Lobby3 will sign an agreement licensing the patent to Lobby3.

Lobby3 developers will use the patent in projects to leverage the best of open source and proprietary solutions.

The LexDAO community, especially LexClinic, will offer support where prudent.

SPECIFICATION

Though it evolved into a first-principles generic technology, the patent was originally intended for legal document innovation. So it’s a perfect fit for projects like petition-fundraiser dapps.

The patent can be found at WO2020160021 HIERARCHICAL SCRIPT DATABASE AND DATABASE APPLICATIONS 3 . It uses a novel kernel script to render code into a tree at runtime. Imagine this kernel as the engine that renders a tree alternative to framework solutions (though not mutually exclusive).

Before this invention, trees such as JSON and XML have been limited to data-only. Now trees can be a combination of data & code, including JavaScript or Python trees!

The disclosed kernel enables all or parts of a Turing complete script that is not written as a logic tree, such as shallow-nested object oriented JavaScript, to be rendered as or within a high-definition and self-modifying logic tree of code & data nodes.

This rendering into a logic tree allows for simple programmable or human hierarchical URI-like navigation of shallow-nested scripts during runtime or audit.

When used in World Wide Web connected environments, through libraries such as Node.js, the entire logic tree can respond to outside stimulus (artificial proto-life).

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

Though technically possible, there are no concerns about prior art interfering with this paradigm shifting patent.

Software is not patentable, but a mix of software & hardware is patentable. UK patent laws about what’s considered software-only are different than US patent laws. As this patent was written by US agents, we now need an appropriate response tailored for the UK examiner.

The point of this proposal is to fund the UK agent’s response to the UK examiner, as well as the preliminary response work done by the US agents. But this response could fail. If so, the invention will be considered a software-only invention under UK law and not patentable.

Regardless of the UK patent’s outcome, Lobby3 will get to enjoy use of the US (and Canadian) patents now and throughout the multi-year patenting process as well as the patent’s 20 year potential lifetime.

(The patenting process matters because if in the unlikely event the patent fails US and Canadian examination, in the meantime Lobby3 will have enjoyed first-mover advantage.)

All funds not used to pay patent agents for the UK response will be returned to Lobby3.

Clinamenic, Reneedaos, Aphilos and bestape have been discussing the products Lobby3 is planning to develop. This patent seems to be a perfect fit for these products. And DAO Coalition as well as LexDAO seem to be perfect clients for these products.

In May 2022, Lobby3 co-sponsored bestape’s trip to DDEX 1’s plenary so he could explain NFTs to DDEX members. Bestape was invited to the plenary because of his background in legal engineering and musical rights (copyright) management.
