SUMMARY

Now that the Lobby3 UNA is established, we need a membership token which has governance integrity and zk-KYC built in. Most essentially, and in distinction from the original Lobby3 DAO membership token, this new token will be non-transferable, will only allow one per user (zk proof of uniqueness), and will be able to “hold” badges (using the ERC-6551 token standard).

The decision to move beyond the original Lobby3 membership token has been covered extensively, but the primary reasons are that the token made no use of KYC or zk-KYC requirements, it was transferable, and there was no limitation on the number of these tokens a given user could acquire. These technical factors together enabled a number of attack vectors and foundational vulnerabilities which, given the regulatory sensitivity of Lobby3’s area of operation, rendered the original token non-viable for a sound organizational structure.

The current plan is that the new membership token will be free, aside from a small platform fee for Station, estimated at 1 MATIC, because Station will also build out a GUI for users to claim this token. Token pricing/revenue dynamics may eventually be revised by Lobby3 UNA, but for now there is no intention or need to charge for membership.

The original Lobby3 DAO membership token will continue to be used for governance over the remaining ETH from the sale of this original token (at the time, around 37 ETH). Once this ETH is depleted, there is no intention to make use of the original Lobby3 DAO membership token.

If successful, this Lobby3 UNA membership token system will replace our existing strategy (Discord+Holo+Guild+Badger, which involves quite a bit of friction), and will enable the UNA board of directors to be confident that Lobby3 members are unique people.

NEXT STEPS

Pay the Station team 1 ETH for them to develop the membership token and the token claim GUI, in such a platform-agnostic way that the Lobby3 team can independently administer the token outside of Station’s platform. Payment will be sent upon completion of stated work.
