Our Story

Every end is a beginning.

In the summer of 2021, a simple message was sent out from the core team at Seed Club, “Shall we start a new DAO? https://club.mirror.xyz/dnN3Dwe-iD6jBpzkase4YLHTxYtnuFnmUbSoOfPEkjI”

And with that (and an NFT sale to create a treasury), mClub was born.

Originally intended to be an experiment in DAO building and supporting the growth of the Mirror ecosystem, a small group of intrepid early contributors set to work co-creating a clear purpose, governance, community, and service offerings.

Its first Season focused on: forming the DAO recruiting, backing, and supporting creators onto the Mirror platform creating a learning experience for those interested in creating and working within a DAO.

Season 2 focused on trying to mature the DAO with more established roles, consistent contributions, and a more focused mission emphasizing supporting creators regardless of whether or not they were using Mirror.

Alas, one byproduct of creating a proving ground for learning how to DAO and building DAO talent was a number of core contributors being recruited away to other projects combined with the slow attrition of interest as the work of the DAO got real.

In two years, mClub journeyed from its initial burst of energy and activity to three core contributors working tirelessly to keep it moving forward with ever-decreasing community interest in the evolved mission of supporting Artists and Creators in web3.

Sunsetting the DAO

After a long period of dormancy, a few of the initial core contributors are proposing to officially sunset mClub and put its remaining treasury immediately and directly to work supporting artists.

Our guidelines in this sunset were to keep things as simple as possible and adhere to mClub’s mission of supporting artists.

Intended Outcome: Liquidate the mClub treasury so that (1) we honor the mission of supporting artists creating in the web3 space

Challenges: Four years have passed since mClub was formed and for the last three years, there hasn't been any substantial activity or contribution took place We don’t have access to the original Discord server to help identify all of the early contributors

Proposed Approach: Disperse the mClub treasury: -17.7 eth distributed as follows: 100% of remaining funds shall be redistributed to Artizen (https://artizen.fund/), a platform where anyone can launch their own fund to support the projects that matter most to their community. They’ve supported and funded artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, and creators of every kind and continue to do so equitably These funds will go directly to support the current cohort of community funds run by Fund Directors. Fund Directors do NOT receive any material support for launching a fund on Artizen beyond mentorship and technical support for the platform. However, the platform will match donations up to $10k for the current season Directors are responsible for marketing their funds and approving as well as denying projects as they apply to said fund Funds will be transferred directly to Artizen in USDC Funds will be distributed to current community funds currently participating in the Season 5 Cohort, the first to launch said community funds. -Convert SAFE tokens to USDC** -Legacy tokens and NFT’s: A group of TBD community members shall steward the remaining assets. Remaining mClub members shall determine the group that would steward said process at a later time – to their discretion. Rather than burning or selling, should any of those assets appreciate, this group shall use said assets and/or funds to support community projects and initiatives.
