TLDR: Tech Runs proposing to experiment with a monthly membership service

In an attempt to keep membership simple and familiar: beyond conversations with all of our cultures and the research we did, we’ve discovered that NFTs can be used to produce subscription fees, with a simple fiat onramp integration like Stripe, Shopify, etc.

• How will the new system work?

  The new Global Pass NFT membership model will serve to unite all Tech Runs cultures under a single metaDAO community. Members will now enjoy access to all events across all cultures. This pass was made with the Digital Nomad in mind.

  Tech Runs NFTs will be priced modestly to start at $100 a month, billed monthly, quarterly or annually.

  Starting with a general membership pass allows for us to explore the upgrades in the future following a simple revenue model that allows us to reinvest membership dues in the communities for enhanced experiences and contributor payouts.

  We will create 1000 passes in Q1 2023. 500 of those passes will be claimable by our current members free of cost (see below for details) and the remaining 500 passes will go out for sale shortly after. 

  Revenue will be collected globally and re-distributed locally to ensure that all cultures can uphold the $100 a month experience.

• What does monthly membership include? Today, we provide access to:

  Access to the token-gated chat (we will update Collab Land to gate for the NFT and not the local tokens)

  Access to 2 sporting events

  Access to 2 community events

  Community perks (local discounts and event access)

  Merch

• If I’m already a member, will I have to start paying?

  When we launch this pass, all current members holding tokens will be granted access to simply “claim” their NFT membership pass.

  The passes will be available on a claim page that requires members to submit name, wallet, and culture to claim his or her airdropped pass.

  This pass will be valid through 2023. This is a $600 value to our current members. Beginning July 2023, current members will become “token holders” though not members. The distinction here is that as a holder of the local minimum threshold of $MTRS1, $LATR or $BAYTR tokens, you will always retain governance rights within the community. Membership, meaning access to the token-gated chat, biweekly runs and events held by the community, will require an active NFT pass.

• Who is building the new system?

  Passage Protocol. Read more about them (https://www.passage.xyz).

• Who will pay for the new system?

  Tech Runs Treasury w/ support from DAOLabs

• Who is DAOLabs?

  DAOLabs is the official corporate entity founded by DT that acts as Tech Runs’ venture studio and accelerator. A large reason for the transition to the new system is for Tech Runs to become more financially self sustaining so that we can rely on DAOLabs less.

  To date, DAOLabs has funded our expansion into 4 markets, all of our major events and our experiments (like the new NFT model). We are grateful to DAOLabs in its role on our journey and excited to expand our revenue generation wings.

• What are we granting Tech Runs Global Leadership permission to decide?

  Tech Runs Global Leadership is a group of individuals* within the DAO who have stepped up to coordinate the consistency of the brand experience as it scales into new markets.

  By approving this proposal you are granting the Tech Runs Global Leadership team the power to make day to day decisions on the execution and management of the new system.

  Decisions include but are not limited to: what team we hire for the build, what data we choose to collect, how the data is used to inform other operational decisions, how revenue is shared across cultures, and how revenue is used to grow the global operation.

  The community reserves the right to hold global leadership accountable to maintaining transparency in the process and may choose to address any gross negligence in the execution or management of the new system by proposing a Snapshot vote to revoke the powers to lead the process.

• How will we stay informed?

  Beginning 3 months after an approved proposal snapshot, members will be updated quarterly, in writing, regarding where the project currently stands. One week after each quarterly written update, a global leadership member will host a town hall style Zoom meeting for all members across all cultures to ask questions, give suggestions, etc.

• What could future utility for the NFT pass look like?

  What’s special about these NFTs is that they’ll have dynamic capabilities in the future. Meaning, have the ability to change based on engagement and payment meta data we collect.

  ie. As a $LATR applicant, once approved by the membership team, you are given a link to purchase a TR NFT membership pass. That pass visually starts off as Black with White lettering. As you engage with Tech Runs activities, join as a Contributor, or have stayed an active member season by season, your Black/White NFT Pass can dynamically become GOLD, then possibly Platinum with badges and/or stripes on the membership card to showcase your membership status.

  What we can then do with this is create programming where based on your status, you are given different perks. Rewarding the most engaged and tenured members.

The most important part here is we are exploring on our way to revenue. Nothing is concrete. Everything is collaborative. And the goal is to build in the open, transparent to tap in with all these brilliant minds we have around us.
