"Our experience of reading inspiring non-fiction is often hampered by the lack of time and energy to really reflect on the core message, or take action according to the recommendations discussed. Sometimes all we need is a conversation to talk through the reasons we decided to read the book, what we got out of it, and what changes we are now seeking to make in our lives.
This is an hour long online meeting to discuss a non-fiction book with 3 - 5 others. The small number of participants ensures that everyone will have air time to share their own perspectives. The host of the call reads the book carefully, makes lots of notes, and prepares a ten minute introduction to the call. Participants then take it in turns to hold the floor, taking it in turns to share their own motivations, what they'd like to get out of the book or out of the call. In holding the floor - the participant introduces themselves, shares their own agenda, and then opens themselves up to questions & comments.
To support participation - it is not necessary for participants to have read the book (except the host) - but just to be interested in the themes discussed in the book - and perhaps thinking of reading it.
The format draws on the concept of ""Group Therapy"" but would better be described as ""Group Coaching"". The group size can go up to 12 - but in this case, the meeting would need to be 2 hours long to accommodate all participants' voices."
