In 1998, Carla Odell (APQC.org) authored If Only We Knew What We Know, the transfer of internal knowledge and best practices. She was addressing the accumulation of vast amounts of corporate content being generated every day, the emerging explosion of digital media content, and the inability of organizations to discover – no less make use of – information embedded in all this content. Network First Manifesto finds itself on the cusp of a tipping point where relevant information is nearing impossible to find – no less use – from all the content we are generating. Some sort of Content Knowledge Management (CKM) system is needed to repose, index, and prepare content to be discovered and used across the organization. In addition, the intentional curation of content into structured learning activities – to Circulate outcomes of NFM efforts (a function of the 8C Framework) – is an important use of the information accessible in the CKM. Thus, a Learning & Development (L&D) layer atop the CKM foundation is also needed. This project intends to craft the design of both CKM and the L&D layer that will support internal and external activities of the NFM. Minimally, Outcomes will be designs (architecture) and recommended protocols (Guidebook).
