The purpose of this DAO proposal is to make Motherboard our next incubated project.
Put simple, Motherboard is everything you need to run your DAO. All in one place.
Below, we dive into all categories of DAO operations and how Motherboard makes these processes seamless and efficient.
Onboarding and managing DAO contributors currently requires a lot of time and effort on disconnected platforms like Twitter, Discord, and Telegram - making it difficult to track who makes up the team.
Motherboard centralizes onboarding and contributor management by enabling DAOs to set up custom invitation links or receive requests. It also provides a role system with access levels, giving operators control over which features are available within the platform.
Oftentimes, multi-sig signers are working with multiple DAOs that operate across several different chains. Consequently, the current solutions are not achieving optimal results, as assets and signers must be allocated to numerous cross-chain multi-sigs.
Motherboard solves this issue by providing DAO operators with a labeling system for all outgoing transactions, cross-EVM-compatible Gnosis multi-sig payments, and soon contract interactions with the Safe apps. Further, Motherboard features aggregated DAO multi-sigs across EVM chains with notifications for signers. So signers will no longer need to search for the correct multisig when a signature is requested.
DAOs often don't have a single source of truth for their active contributors and lack tools that automate payments to their contributor bases.
Motherboard makes payroll management simpler than ever before. With Motherboard, DAO operators can easily set up spot and recurring payments for their contributors across multiple networks. Motherboard also enables external payment requests for non-contributors with the ability to customize payment terms.
Logging data manually poses its risks; it often results in a lack of transparency and information loss, creating blindspots within a DAO's operations. Treasury holdings become especially risky with no designated treasury manager to control them. Furthermore, there are currently few sources available for understanding industry averages regarding treasury allocations and contributor compensation - resulting in large voids hindering organizational clarity.
Motherboard provides the essential tools needed for DAO operators to gain clarity on their operations, ensuring transparency and trust. Through Motherboard's label-based automated accounting system, DAOs can easily track all outgoing transactions, with inbound P/L coming shortly after launch.
The analytics dashboard will be further upgraded to introduce treasury liquidity and runway analysis to provide DAO operators with a much better understanding of cash flow and resources available for operations. Further, DAO-to-DAO comparisons of analytics and payroll spend will allow operators to get the insight they need to structure competitive compensation terms for contributors.
Since internal communication is spread out among multiple platforms and isn't encrypted, it disconnects teams and leads to data loss. Meanwhile, external communication is vulnerable to impersonation and often delayed because team members have to be added manually.
Motherboard's internal encrypted chat allows team members to coordinate without worrying about data loss or security risks. Furthermore, the platform also provides external encrypted channels for business development efforts and a token-curated registry of DAOs to ensure legitimacy. Last but not least, the platform features a DAO admin-curated list of relevant team members that are automatically added to each shared channel, and an integration of Discord for easy communication with the community.
Despite governance being a crucial part of decentralized protocols, it's infrequently integrated into everyday tools and is not prioritized.
Motherboard ensures that governance operations are taken care of by providing a native integration of Snapshot with notifications regarding proposal outcomes, and a full view on all past, present and planned proposals. DAO operators will be able to post, schedule and view ongoing and historical proposals without ever leaving Motherboard.
DAO's are forced to hire treasury managers, or resort to simplistic lending/LP strategies with their underlying treasuries, resulting in either high payroll costs, or low yields.
Post-launch, Motherboard will feature a native integration of a future incubated project (proposal soon) --- a structured product protocol built to minimize DeFi inefficiencies through transparent yields and diversified risk management. All DAOs utilizing Motherboard will have access to automated risk tranched vaults, automatically compounded cross-chain strategies curated by an in-house risk engine, and 1-click strategies for a wide risk appetite.
Housing an asset manager natively allows operators to efficiently manage the capital of their DAO, while being prudent in the risk that they undertake.
Once this proposal and the subsequent snapshot is approved by the DAO, New Order will provide technical, fundraising, strategy, and marketing support to Motherboard. Motherboard is seen as a core ecosystem project of New Order, and will be fully owned and operated by New Order DAO. The platform provides a very valuable space for incubated projects to seek operational stability and is expected to be a large revenue driver for the DAO treasury and $NEWO once the platform is monetized later in 2023.
