Revamp the SubDAO Structure and Processes

Voting ended over 3 years agoSucceeded

Summary:

SubDAOs streamline efficient operations giving reasonable levels of autonomy to elected leads. Proposed sub DAOs include:

  • Marketing and Community
    • Lead: Alex
    • Treasury and Governance
      • Lead: Che
    • Venture
      • Lead: Amber
    • Engineering
      • Lead: Marek

The leads would provide valuable oversight, operationally curating the DAO and facilitating DAO governance.

Purpose:

After introducing the existing SubDAO structure we were quick to realise the overall complexity and unintended confusion of contributors. This pushed us to re-work the current structure, simplify it, and further develop robust contributor funnels.

Description of proposed SubDAOs:

  • Community and Marketing

    • Ambassador programs

    • Snapshots, Improvements, etc
    • Managing our assets
    • Defi / yield strategies
    • Monitoring portfolio project - governance tokens
    • Manage & pay $NEWO contributor program

  • Venture
    • Accelerator - applications & funnel
    • EIR, CTO-in-residence, Teams applications
    • Partnerships & Ecosystem Development
    • Liquidity providers, market makers, exchanges
    • Fundraising

Governance:

Every quarter, Sub DAO leads will hold elections for contributors to join the SubDAOs and contribute to the growth of New Order. The size of the contributing teams will be decided on by SubDAO leads. Decisions will be based on budgets and required capacities for the quarter.

SubDAO leads will be reevaluated quarterly based on OKR measures collectively set by the team. DAO participants are also encouraged to reach out and present their candidacies for the team to consider.

Re-Worked funnel and Contributor management approach:

  1. Future contributors learn about and apply to a SubDAO through New Order Academy
  2. At the start of every quarter, SubDAO leads will hold elections for applicants.
  3. Once selected, contributors will be onboarded into a private working server and work closely with the SubDAO leads.
  4. Aside from the internal workflow, a monthly report will be posted publicly containing bullet points of tasks completed per SubDAO to improve transparency.

Conclusion:

In its previous state, SubDAOs and SubDAO discussions were easily accessible by anyone (with a click of a button in the Discord). We quickly realised that there must be a filter layer for new entrants and a level of privacy for discussions in order to produce meaningful work (e.g. our venture initiatives for incubated/accelerated projects, which must be under wraps to avoid being front-run). By revamping the SubDAO structure and processes, contributors will be enabled to participate at a higher level than before and work closer with the core team on key tasks.
