Moloch or no Moloch

Voting ended over 3 years agoSucceeded

Hey guys, hope you are all doing great.

So one of our members @taekikz has put forward the option to go to a Moloch DAO format as opposed to a multisig format.

I have been reading up on these over the past few days, and although as it stands currently, i have no idea how to set one up, i do like the idea of it and think we should go to a vote on if we move forward down this path. I am going to put down a few points below and you can make up your mind from there. But to read one of the articles, please see this link: https://daohaus.mirror.xyz/U_JQtheSzdpRFqQwf9Ow3LgLNG0WMZ6ibAyrjWDu_fc

Governance power in Moloch DAOs takes two forms:

  • Voting rights – how much your voice matters in whether proposals pass or fail.

  • Economic stake, aka exit rights or “ragequit” – a direct claim on a proportion of the assets in the DAO treasury

Security Properties of Moloch DAOs:

  • Strong member property rights
  • Strong minority member protections
  • Sybil resistance
  • Membership is defined non-financially
  • Supports both slower / more secure as well as faster / less secure collective action models

Coordination Properties of Moloch DAOs:

  • Consent-based decision-making
  • Relatively low voter fatigue
  • Scales trustless coordination to ~10x more members than a multisig
  • Highly flexible and adaptive to community needs
  • Creates conditions for serendipitous value creation
  • Iterative alignment

Uniquely Beautiful Properties of Moloch DAOs:

  • Inside the DAO is a relatively safe space
  • Builds trust among members
  • Superposition of private property and shared property
  • Superposition of individualism and collectivism

So i ask you all, what path do we take. Moloch or no Moloch?
