Resignation to the Mission Board

With this letter we express our resignation from the position that has been honored to us by decision and popular vote of the DAO.

We understand that the nature of building hierarchies has generated a series of political confrontations within our community that contributed to a deterioration in our coexistence which led to the stagnation in the growth of the Proof of Humanity project. However, the willingness to experiment with practices that help us understand what it means to build a Democratic DAO in the 21st century is audacious and necessary. The legitimacy of this body was constituted by a process of Digital Direct Democracy that is in itself an unprecedented practice in History.

We decisively confronted an autocratic, hypocritical and classist form of power. A power incapable of tolerating dissent by censoring and demonizing critical voices; corrupting our governance without any ethical consideration for the right of new users to choose freely; and promoting an archaic division between developers and users that does nothing more than replicate the old vices still present on the technological powers that reign supreme on the contemporary Internet today.

The new frontiers that emerge from the forks and implementations of Proof of Humanity and other humanist services should not be oblivious to the fact that a democracy is never granted, but rather must be permanently conquered day by day by each one of us.

Our work has always been voluntary, without anyone paying us money to defend the atrocious and driven by the will to find a path that allows us to understand how to give the human right to identity, to the vote and to a life with dignity beyond all frontiers wherever a person lives on the planet.

The road ahead is immensely larger than the one we have already been through. We will meet anywhere there is more democracy, more freedom and greater equality.

Con la presente carta manifestamos nuestra renuncia al cargo que nos ha sido honrado por decisión y voto popular de la DAO.

Comprendemos que la naturaleza política de erigir jerarquías ha generado dentro de nuestra comunidad una serie de enfrentamientos políticos que contribuyeron a un desgaste en la convivencia y a su vez un estancamiento en el crecimiento del proyecto Proof of Humanity. No obstante no deja de ser audaz la vocación por experimentar prácticas que nos ayuden a comprender qué significa construir una DAO Democrática en el siglo XXI. La legitimidad de este órgano fue constituida por un proceso de Democracia Directa Digital que es en sí misma una práctica sin precedentes en la Historia.

Nos enfrentamos decidida y contundentemente a un poder autocrático, hipócrita y clasista. Un poder incapaz de tolerar el disenso censurando y demonizando las voces críticas; corrompiendo nuestra gobernanza sin consideración ética alguna por el derecho de los nuevos usuarios a elegir libremente; y promoviendo una división arcaica entre desarrolladores y usuarios que no hace más que replicar los viejos vicios del poder tecnológico y feudal que reina en la internet contemporánea.

Las nuevas fronteras que emerjan a partir de los forks e implementaciones tanto de Proof of Humanity como de otros servicios humanistas no deben ser ajenas al hecho de que una democracia nunca se es regalada sino que debe ser conquistada permanentemente día a día por cada uno de nosotros.

Nuestro trabajo ha sido siempre voluntario, sin nadie que nos pague dinero por defender lo indefendible e impulsado por la vocación de encontrar un camino que nos permita entender cómo dar el derecho humano a la identidad, al voto y a una vida digna más allá de toda frontera donde sea que habite una persona en el planeta.

El camino por delante es inmensamente más grande que el ya recorrido. Nos encontraremos donde haya más democracia, más libertad y mayor igualdad.
