Title: Quantum Biology DAO “Update Working Groups May 2025” Proposal
This development proposal updates the DAO’s working groups by (1) clarifying how working groups come into existence, (2) ratifying the existence of the Science, Communications, and Operations working group, (3) adding the Treasury and Product working groups, (4) merging the Education Subgroup back into the Communications Working Group, and (5) electing leaders for the Science, Communications, Operations, and Treasury working Groups. The functions of the working groups are also summarized.
The Quantum Biology DAO is a founder-led, community-centric tokenocracy engaged in a process of progressive decentralization. As part of this decentralization, more and more people are contributing to the DAO in diverse ways. The DAO originally established a framework for working groups (DP-4) to allow co-founders and community members to contribute to DAO’s mission of advancing the field of quantum biology.
The original framework included as examples the Science, Communications, and Operations working groups, though did not specifically establish these, and did not require a DAO proposal to create others. It was subsequently assumed that these working groups had been established and that a DAO proposal was necessary to create others. In line with this assumption, the Education subgroup was created, without a DAO proposal, as a subgroup of the Communications working group. Furthermore, various organized activities, such as governance, treasury management, product management, and token tracking came into existence; of these, only product management was informally called a “working group.”
This proposal is advanced in the context of DAO co-founders proposing to add a Product and Treasury working group, which will allow the DAO to manage product development and the DAO treasury in an appropriately legible, efficient, and decentralized manner.
1. DAO proposals needed to establish working groups. Henceforth, the Quantum Biology DAO must pass a proposal in order to officially create a working group. In anticipation of such a proposal, informal groups may form that will fulfill the functions of working groups, until such time as their existence is officially ratified.
2. Previous working groups are officially recognized. The Science, Communications, and Operations working groups, given as examples in DP-4, are hereby officially recognized as working groups. The functions of these working groups are as follows:
Science — reviewing papers, developing and discussing hypotheses, contributing to the Quantum Biology DAO and Quantum Biology Ecosystem’s scientific roadmaps, helping determine priorities for grants to scientists, advising the DAO on the sciencerelated matters, and more
Communications — managing social media (e.g., Telegram, X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, YouTube), managing the Discord, maintaining community engagement and motivation, responding to general queries, deleting spam, enforcing community standards, educating people about quantum biology and the Quantum Biology DAO, and more
Operations — tracking community member contributions, helping with scheduling, maintaining compliance with laws, and more.
3. New working groups created. The Product and Treasury working groups are hereby officially created. The functions of these working groups are as follows:
Product — developing products (e.g., scientific instruments) for the DAO to sell, identifying potential customers, creating marketing and distribution plans, perform market analyses to identify opportunities for products, and more
Treasury — considering market conditions, advising the DAO about the state of the treasury, making decisions about treasury management (e.g., staking, deciding which tokens to hold), and more
4. Education subgroup merged into the Communications working group. The Education subgroup, previously a subgroup of the Communications working group, is now dissolved, with its functions now taken back into the Communications working group.
5. Function of working group leaders reiterated. According to DP-4, and reiterated by this proposal, working group leaders, in conjunction with Core Contributors, are to provide working group members with goals, suggestions and rules. They must follow all essential rules and be responsive to feedback; otherwise, they are encouraged to take initiative. Working group leaders will attend a monthly meeting with Core Contributors to discuss progress of the working groups.
6. Normalization of multiple leaders for working groups. The original text of DP-4, which establishes the DAO’s framework for working groups, says that “in exceptional circumstances” working group leaders may have some number of leaders other than 0 or 1. Henceforth, it is considered normal that Quantum Biology DAO working groups may have any number of leaders. In some cases, this may save scientists time by splitting responsibilities.
7. Designation of leaders for many working groups. The following individuals, each of whom has been nominated by Geoff Anders and Alessandro Lodesani, who are DAO Core Contributors, shall lead the following working groups:
Science — Chris Rourk Communications — Kyra Gardner Product — Geoff Anders and Alessandro Lodesani Operations — Jennilyn Gaitan Treasury — Michael Montague
8. Duration of term for working group leaders. Any person who becomes a DAO working group leader shall retain that position by default for 12 months. A person may resign their position as working group leader at any time and may at that time choose a temporary replacement, who will last until a new DAO proposal selects a new leader for the relevant working group. Core Contributors of the Quantum Biology DAO may remove a working group leader by majority vote.
9. Statement of goals and measures for working groups. By the beginning of each quarter (i.e., before January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1), working group leaders will propose (1) goals for their respective working groups, and (2) measures for assessing whether their respective working groups are functioning well. Core Contributors will determine whether these goals and measures are acceptable; if there is disagreement, this shall be decided by majority vote. If the goals or measures are not acceptable, discussion shall follow until acceptable goals and measures are decided upon.
Formally recognizing current working groups, adding new working groups, eliminating groups that have become redundant (i.e., the Education subgroup), designating leaders for working groups, and having leaders of working groups proposal goals for their working groups will increase transparency, effectiveness, and efficiency at the DAO as it continues on the path to progressive decentralization.
