Proposal #004: Change Project Name from Raiden to Nediar

Overview: The Raiden Network reached a number of important milestones in the past year:

Raiden is fully functional and feature-complete. Raiden on Arbitrum makes opening channels significantly cheaper and easier. Our path to community governance put you in the driver’s seat. Now it’s time for a new name and a new brand. I’m proposing that we change the name of the project from Raiden to Nediar.

Note: This is not a serious proposal. Haha. I created it in order to demonstrate the new Community Governance process. (Read more about Community Governance and Snapshot Voting.) I encourage you and all RDN token holders to discuss and debate this proposal - and then vote for or against it when a vote is initiated on Snapshot. However, we will keep the name Raiden.

Problem: The Raiden name was initially inspired by the Bitcoin Lightning Network and the fictional character in the Mortal Kombat game.

But the project has outgrown these origins. It’s time for a new name and brand - one unique to our community and mission.

Solution: I propose we choose a new name and a new brand. This will increase engagement with our community and the larger Ethereum ecosystem, and ultimately increase adoption of the protocol.

Proposal: My proposal is to change the project name from Raiden to Nediar. Pronounced as “Neh - Dee - Are”.

Why Nediar? It came to me in a dream. ¯(ツ)/¯
