Rareships DAO Galaxy Migration towards zkSync

Voting ended over 2 years agoSucceeded

Severity Level: CRITICAL (requires min 333 ships out of min 33 wallets with supermajority approval of 66%)

Dear Nauts,

One of the guiding principles of our DAO is that we are restless explorers of the web3 space. We don’t shy away from challenges, and where we see an opportunity, we seize it. Wherever possible, we combine technological curiosity with a can-do attitude.

This is why Rareships Team proposes a Governance vote regarding taking our DAO on a big adventure. Our very first “explorative” mission together would lead us toward a new Hub in this digital galaxy. Together, we would be traveling at the speed of light towards a far away planet called: zkSync.

The discussion(s) that took place in a timeframe of 48hrs+ prior to this vote can be found in our TG group as well as in the Naut Forum under the following link: https://forum.rareships.io/t/rareships-dao-request-for-comments-galaxy-migration/73

Here some more background infos on the adventure:

Why do this?

We like our tech and we like it good. After a long and thorough research and deliberation, we identified zkSync as the “King of Rollups” for our use case and the specific needs of our fleet of 1111 ships. It gives us what we want: the highest rate of decentralization, with cutting-edge zero knowledge technology, as well as manageable transaction costs for our future missions.

Besides the tech aspect, there is the growth aspect. We are keen on expanding our community of Nauts to new and bigger audiences, we want to bring ecosystems and web3 galaxies together, we want to be present on several marketplaces. No need to choose, we believe that soon we can have it all.

This is why right from the get-go we are making our contracts compatible with LayerZero cross-chain technology and their ONFT (Omnichain Non Fungible Token) Standard, meaning all blockchains that are or will be LayerZero compatible in the future will also become our playground. Another groundbreaking tech addition will be the integration of Account Abstraction (ERC-4337). ZkSync provides native support for social recovery of accounts and also more secure and UX friendly ways of working with accounts in general.

In addition to that, there might be future opportunities by joining zkSync network now, at its early stage. For the DAO and project as a whole, possible ecosystem grants come to mind. For individual ship holders, future ecosystem rewards for early participants are not out of the realm of possibility, if we look at past examples of other ecosystems.

As you can imagine, we do not come unprepared. Regarding a possible migration plan - If we as DAO agree on this journey together - it could look like this:

Wen do this?

The deployment could happen within 2 weeks after the Governance vote passes. You would receive notice at least 24 hours in advance.

How do this?

The ships would be burned on Exosama and claimed again on zkSync. In order to claim yours, you would only need to:

  1. Burn your ship(s) on Exosama
  2. Fund your wallet on zkSync by using zkSync Era Bridge
  3. Go to the claiming website and claim your ship(s)
  4. Be ready to go!

In addition to the claiming transactions making you Nauts active users of zkSync and possibly eligible for future rewards in the network, it would also enable the DAO to check which ship holders/ships are still active and prevent “dead ships” from never experiencing the joy of flying out to space!

Meaning: there would be a claiming period of 3 months and all the ships that would remain unburned/unclaimed after this period, would get claimed by the Rareships DAO Treasury and thus flow back into our DAO’s ecosystem and future utility.

Regarding all the further steps foreseen in our Roadmap (ie Planet Staking, Rarebots Crafting, and everything else that is to follow), those would take place already in our new Galaxy Hub over at zkSync, if we decide to go ahead with the move.

Disclaimer: Our Roots

Polkadot and Moonsama will always remain our roots, the foundation that made us who we are today (and that will be part of our future sustainable utility), and as soon as LayerZero compatibility gets enacted on their side, our paths will be able to reunite and continue co-creating together.

Until then, we shall remain fast-movers, early adopters and new web3 galaxy explorers!

Are you willing to embark on this zkSync adventure with us?
