Update to the Community Curation System

Context

This proposal adds functionality to the current community curation system, intended to address gaps identified after the first successful curatorial season.

These changes are intended to make the Community Curation system the unique and complete mechanism through which future acquisitions are decided in RAW DAO.

They also make the rules simpler for members, reducing bureaucracy and thus superseding the previous proposals.

Proposal

Ad Hoc Purchases

1. The guidelines set forth by the Curation Committee Internal Regiment shall be suspended indefinitely, thus precluding the formation of Curatorial Committees in RAW;
2. All curatorial decisions will be settled directly by the RAW community;
3. Ad Hoc curatorial decisions can be quickly settled with a simple majority non token-weighted Discord poll in the token-gated curation channel;
   • a. the minimum quorum required for a decision is 10% of the authenticated member base;
   • b. the limit for Ad Hoc purchases is 5 pieces per month, irrespective of collection.
4. Only members with the “scout” role shall have the right to trigger Ad Hoc curatorial polls in the community;
   • a. the scout role shall be awarded by the community to members who have demonstrated curatorial ability and/or deal making skills, and don’t have clear conflicts of interest, such as being strongly associated to a photography platform or a competing DAO;
   • b. any member fulfilling the requirements of (a) can apply for a scout position;
   • c. after applications are gathered, the top 5 winners of a Discord approval-voting poll will be granted the scout role;
   • d. new scout elections shall be held every quarter-end.
5. This system can also be used to approve donations.

Community Curation

1. Curation Seasons shall happen every month according to the following schedule:

   

2. A season’s budget shall be decided by a Discord poll prior to its debut, but shall be increased if not enough to acquire at least 1 work from each of the winning collections;

3. Nominations shall be made in a specific form (or platform) so as not to clog discord channels, following these constraints:

   • a. members shall nominate collections, not specific pieces;
   • b. maximum of 1 nomination per member;
   • c. maximum of 20 total nominations per season;
   • d. nominations will be considered in chronological order;
   • e. collections in which RAW already has significant positions won’t be considered.

4. Voting shall happen in a specific form (or platform) according to these rules:

   • a. the approval voting method will be used, in which members will be able to choose all collections they approve of for RAW to collect;
   • b. members shall vote only once, non-token weighted;
   • c. discussions and meetings shall be held in Discord for members to share their opinions during voting;
   • d. campaigning and colluding is prohibited, members aren't allowed to reach out to others and influence their decision making without their request;
     • openly sharing one's opinion in a constrained manner during dedicated discussion calls and the curation Discord channel is allowed;
     • violation of this rule will result in a member's suspension from the curatorial process for 3 seasons.
   • e. the top 3 voted nominations will be collected.

5. Acquisitions — the choice of which specific pieces from each collection to purchase will be decided with simple majority Discord polls in the token-gated curation channel, triggered by members with the scout role.

Closing Remarks

We hope these changes will make the curatorial process more fun, simple and engaging. We believe that developing a novel and decentralized curatorial system is of key importance for achieving RAW’s strategic vision.
