As the underlying punishment mechanism of the public chain, the Slash Mechanism has played an important role in the security of the PoS public chain and the stability of the operation, especially the punishment for double signatures of validators, which is also necessary to maintain the security, stability, health and sustainable development of the PoS public chain.
In line with the principle of decentralized governance, REI Network will continue to further optimize the penalty logic of validator double signature according to the needs of the community.
In the past, if the manager of the validator makes a wrong operation (such as opening two validators in the server), resulting in a double signature, the system will ruthlessly confiscate it and cannot recover the loss though the manager doesn't do that on purpose. So this proposal aims to optimize the double signature slashing rules.
The upcoming upgrade will punish the double signature according to the actual impact, so that a certain degree of fault tolerance will be given to the double signature caused by the force majeure of the validator and the enthusiasm of the validator to produce blocks can be protected
After the next REI DAO upgrade is completed, the logic of validator double signature penalty will be optimized. The details include:
When a validator double-signs, the validator will be frozen immediately and stop producing blocks;
The Community Governance Committee and the Community Developer Committee jointly evaluate the negative impact of the validator's double signature on the REI Network, and give a suggested value for the penalty amount;
The community governance committee initiates a Snapshot governance proposal, and the final confiscated amount for the validator is determined by the results of community voting.
Team REI Network fully understands the opinions of the community on the upgrade of the Slash Mechanism, and ensures that every $REI holder can fully realize their on-chain governance rights to the REI Network, and the next upgrade will surely optimize the Slash Mechanism of REI Network so that this mechanism can better play a role in the safe and stable operation of REI Network in the future.
