SUMMARY: The Science Conference 2023 (SciCon2023) marks the 2nd online SciCon Event organized by the ResearchHub Foundation, and is a commitment towards making SciCon an annual event. This proposal will seek to outline the intention and logistics of the event, as well as request a budget for operating expenses and event awards. SciCon2023 is currently slated for September 23-24, 2023.
MOTIVATION: The intention of SciCon 2023 is multifaceted. It is firstly to educate the broader scientific and non-scientific community on the pitfalls regarding the current architecture of science. Additionally, it is also to highlight prominent fields including AI in research, broader metascience topics and the potential of Decentralized Science as an extension of the open science movement. In addition, it will bring awareness to both the ResearchHub platform and the broad decentralized science space and their value proposition.
PROPOSAL: We seek community approval for allocating time and resources to setting up ResearchHub Foundation’s SciCon2023. We propose to use up to 350K RSC of the 625K RSC general contributors budget from Q3 2023 budget described in RIP-12: Treasury Allocation Q3 2023 (See attached image)
ACTION: The Community/Working Group Leads and integral community members will spearhead and coordinate members of the community to organize the event. Payments will be done by heavily leaning on the use of bounties on Dework (paid in RSC as outlined above) to payout members for the work completed. Any excess RSC earmarked for this event will be kept in the earmarked “general contributors” bucket through the end of Q3 2023.
