Staking Options for Bera Mainnet

Voting ended about 1 year agoSucceeded

Vote: Should we keep the custodial staking?

We’ve promised non-custodial staking for mainnet, but as we developed it, we realized there are some problems that we have no control over. These issues could have serious implications, so we’re opening a governance vote for NFT holders to help us decide on the best path forward.

Unfortunately, there’s no 100% perfect solution. Both custodial and non-custodial staking have unique pros and cons. Breakdown below.

Option 1: Keep the custodial staking (Vote YES)

Like currently, your Beras are securely staked in our contract and can be unstaked anytime.

Key issue

Some projects use NFT ownership to give out whitelists or airdrops; since, technically speaking, the staking contract owns the tokens (until you unstake), you might miss on those.

While we'll mitigate this in the best possible way (e.g., talk with the projects, publish the real ownership snapshot, redistribute missed airdrops, etc.), some opportunities may still be missed.

Option 2: Switch to a non-custodial staking (Vote NO)

NFT staking can be implemented in the new Genesis collection contract: staking would make the NFT non-transferrable, but your Beras would stay in your wallet.

However, non-transferable NFTs are not directly supported by the marketplaces, which could lead to serious issues.

Issue #1 (Fake listings)

Bad actors could spam listings of non-transferable tokens at extremely low prices (e.g., 0.0001 $BERA), potentially making it very difficult to buy Beras and screwing up our floor price.

Issue #2 (Bidding griefing)

If someone posts a high bid for a Legendary-equipped Bera, the owner could grief by equipping trash items before immediately accepting the bid. This is possible since the owner can now accept bids while playing the game.

While technically possible now, the staking contract makes spotting and tracking changes easier (e.g., via transfers).

Upside

The tokens are always owned by you, making it easier to receive whitelists or airdrops.

In summary

Vote YES: Stick with CUSTODIAL staking (current solution) to avoid marketplace problems.

Vote NO: Switch to NON-CUSTODIAL staking, keeping assets in wallets while accepting the potential marketplace issues.

Got a Fix?

If you have ideas to address these challenges, we’d love to hear them! Your feedback matters, and while we take the vote results seriously, we reserve the right to adapt based on future developments.

We’re committed to transparency and making the best decisions for the community. Thank you for being part of Beramonium! 🐻🧙🏻‍♂️

PS. You need to unstake your ETHEREUM MAINNET Beramonium Genesis NFTs for the snapshot to detect your NFTs.
