Funding Comms 2.0

Voting ended almost 4 years agoSucceeded

Purpose

The comms team was funded with an initial budget for three months. Now the term has ended, but we want to continue our work and implement some improvements.

Summary

A team of DAO members will contribute towards a regular cadence of articles, social media posts, and otherwise public-facing content from SharkDAO to build brand awareness and proliferate our DAO across web3.

The comms-team has executed or helped executing the following tasks during the last round of funding: → Shipping Sharkmas in december (giveaways, juicebox reopening, alpha degen contest). → Shark Street Comic Chapter 1 (published), and Chapter 2 (work in progress).
→ Inventing the Shark DAO Podcast. → Bridging the gap between curation and comms by doing curation-announcements/ twitter-posts, and editorial content. Restructuring shark-bait-curation so that curation efforts will help more to proliferate our DAO across Web3. → Creating visual content (banners, invitations e.g.) for Discord and Twitter. → The Discord- and Notion-workflow has been improved. → Main Twitter activities (daily posts, hosting Twitter spaces, interacting with other projects/ representing the DAO). → KPI analysis

As you can see: We were building a lot. But we also think that the first proposal lacked with assigning responsibilities/ leadership. And it wasn’t clear which tasks are compensated via Coordinape and which with the proposal budget. Funding comms wasn’t completely effective because of that and we’d like to implement some improvements to fix these issues.

The open character of the comms team has to be preserved, but we also would like to structure it more efficiently. The Coordinape round didn’t work well and we suggest to replace it with regular salaries for steady contributors and with paying bounties for specific tasks.

Details

Comms Core Team

The Comms Core Team is reduced from seven to four people. It will consist of Cryptasha, Catriona Emily, Maty and Marxistmillionaire. The core group is executing different tasks, that proliferate our DAO across web 3. All members get a three month contract. They execute the following tasks:

Cryptasha:

  • Lead on the official SharkDAO twitter account.
  • Multiple daily posts.
  • Execution on the Twitter strategy in accordance with individual teams in SharkDAO.
  • Execution of posting in other social channels in coordination with the Comms Team.
  • Monthly KPI reporting/analytics added to Notion
  • Add inquiries from Twitter to Inbound Comms Opportunities
  • Check in with newly created, “SharkDAO Marketing, Media, and Comm” thread and adjust SM to align with plans.
  • Focus mainly on Shark Island project when it is released by following the marketing plan that is decided.
  • Available for other projects and ideas within the DAO as well.

Marxistmillionaire:

  • Shark Bait Curation artist interviews and articles about nounish, cc0-projects, or different aspects of cc0-art. Two articles a month (published on Mirror) are expected.
  • Creating Noun-Personalities-Content, that will be published via the main twitter account. The Personalities-Accounts lack followership and it’s confusing to have different twitter accounts for one organisation. At least one personalities post per week is expected.
  • Marxist will keep track of the comms budget. He’s also willing to fullfill more administraive duties if necessary.
  • Copy editing / writing support on SharkDAO releases.

Maty:

  • In-House Graphic Designer.
  • Twitter-banners, memes, visual content in general.
  • Graphic design of editorials.

Catriona Emily:

  • Certain comms-core-responsibilities overlap with Emily’s job as a community manager (in-community-communication, growth potential e.g.). She’s a part of comms core to discuss possible improvements and to implement the suggested changes.

Bounties

  • A specific amount is reserved to compensate sporadic contributors. Members of the core group won’t get bounties.
  • These contributors can pitch and execute projects that build brand awareness and proliferate our DAO across web3.
  • The core group can pay bounties as an incentive to get tasks done they can not perform themselfes (marketing for certain projects, 3d graphics, twitter hacks e.g.).
  • Sharks that haven’t been compensated for their previous comms work can get a retroactive bounty for their tasks. But members of comms-core won’t get retroactive bounties.
  • The core group is responsible for doing market research about what amount is appropriate for which task.
  • Bounties must be approved by 3/4 members of the Comms Core Team.
  • Comms Core is responsible for administration. For paying bounties we suggest to create a sub-multisig with the comms-core-members as signers. We can pay contributors faster that way and don’t have to bug the main-multisig with our transactions.

Budget:

Wrapping up the old budget

  • The Coordinape round didn’t go well because some participants didn’t execute tasks and others were compensated with proposal budget as well. We suggest to cancel the Coordinape round and transfer the funds (5 ETH) into the prospective comms budget.
  • 3.895 ETH are left from the proposal budget. These funds are transfered into the prospective budget as well.

Compensating Comms Core:

  • We are asking for 10 ETH, distributed as follows: - 4 ETH allocated to Cryptasha for a 3 month contract - 3 ETH allocated to Marxistmillionaire for a 3 month contract. - 3 ETH allocated to Maty for a 3 month contract. - 0 ETH allocated to Emily. Her salary is covered by the Community Management Proposal.

Bounties:

  • 5 ETH are allocated for compensating sporadic contributors with bounties for specific tasks.

Budget Details:

  • Total budget is 15 ETH. But 8.895 ETH are left from our previous budget, so we’re asking for 6.105 ETH from the treasury.
  • Expectations to be responsible with the delegated budget, actively pursue new SharkDAO communicative strategies or brand initiatives.
  • All members commit themselfes to report about the outreach of their projects (KPI reporting).
  • Contracts start on an agreed date between the contributors and the SharkDAO multi-sig.
    • Paid across three monthly transactions or in another method as chosen by the multi-sig.

Risks

  • The changes are making things even worse.
  • Treasury funds are spent ineffectively.
